Sterling single from Bachmann Emily

Thanks, it was a bit of luck, the bricks came from a old barn that fell down on my brothers property, the lime mortar had just washed away so they were easy to clean, all I had to do was move them an advantage of living in the countryside.
My next task is to ballast and finish the land scape features. I am planning on adding two small stations one on each side, small water tower, signals and signal box. Building those is my winter project. I am currently making old type gas lamps to illuminate around the circuit at the moment. I am using these LED lamps from EBAY rest is Styrene.

I think that you are right about the valance, painting it black has successfully reduced its apparent depth. Lining will help even further.

Has anybody got any idea`s on a source for the right size or approx, GNR lettering and numbers for the Stirling Single?

Phoenix Precision paints do a range of transfers from Gauge 1 upwards. A lot of stuff is not on their website yet. GRS do a range of gold "drop shadow" lettering and numbering too. There are a few specialist "bespoke" makers, Blackhams is one that comes to mind in the UK and there is Stan Cedarleaf(?) in the US. Max.

A few more additions to the Sterling adding mushroom vents to the tender. Guard irons, Safety chains and vacuum brake hose on the front buffer beam

Keith, I had thought about the running board valance, but the difference in height between the running board at the smoke box and front buffer beam valance defeated me, it was going a step to far requiring a chassis mod.  I thought O`hell, its gauge 3 running on 45mm I will never get to it to scale, so rule 8 applies.  I still need to do the Red lining on the existing valance.  Are you a long way from Northampton?

Jeremy. A very belated response, I am in S Manchester but going through your posts has got me started on trying to modify Emily.
I am practicing on a coach before anything more drastic.
It will be slow going I fear!

Finally, I am getting around to trying to convert Emily to something loosely resembling a Stirling Single.
First and obvious is the misaligned cross head, a common problem I have seen on several. I have a set of metal rods but I need to decide how to fit these to the chassis.
A few surprises, what a tiny motor (!), the boiler is attached to smoke box by a tab and the cab is held in place by a bracket which only needs one screw to be removed and the other two loosened. That was welcome, it means it will be much easier to remove the excess boiler projection.
I now need the courage to start cutting.
