Speed step wont change!And more!!!

Re:Speed step wont change!And more!!!

Should i just buy a new chip??
massoth one??? (with sound)

Re:Speed step wont change!And more!!!

Not to sure if i can be of help but here goes anyway.

My dad has changed from the LGB DCC setup to a Massoth unit and we had trouble with a QSI sound unit.

It was all down to speed steps.

I have found that not only sounds but also things like lights can suffer from all kinds of problems if you have the wrong speed step value on all kinds of decoders.

Just about all decoders these days require 28/128 speed steps value and most decoders come with this value preset.

Now all you need to do is set the naviagator to use a matching value when that loco is in operation.

I will later today when i get out in the garden double check how you do this on my Massoth system and post back here just in case it helps.

Jason.

Re:Speed step wont change!And more!!!

Ok mate what i have done is video'd myself making the changes to both decoder and Navigator to set everything up for 28/128 speed steps.

I have compressed it right down to about 6mb is size so if you PM me your email address i will zip it up and send it to you via email.

I hope this small video clip helps and is not just a waste of 60seconds of your life !

Jason.

Re:Speed step wont change!And more!!!

When you say "still not right", can you please repeat for us the current list of problems, because there've been a few posts on the thread so difficult to follow what (if anything) has been corrected and what's still wrong?

The only factory-fitted sound LGB I have is an older Mikado which dates from 2002 ish I think. Dunno of any of this will help with your particular loco, but some things I've noticed with mine:

1) it won't work on long addresses at all even though the CV's are present and appear to program ok on my SPROG.
2) it won't respond to 128 speed steps, only 14 or 28. Drove me mad trying to figure out why the lights and sound functions would work fine with my NCE system but it wouldn't move! Being a reasonably modern DCC system it defaults to 128 speed steps, and I have to specifically select 28 to get it to move.
3) there's a function key (F6 or F8 I think) which turns the sounds off.

That might be the problem. You say 1 flashes five times thats in serial mode. Try it in parallel.

Press and hold M2 till the screne changes to speed steps, them ok on m3 then M2 till it shows p function. Don't forget to have it on the right loco number it will only change that locos details

Re:Speed step wont change!And more!!!

function buttons ok.
still no sound.
firebox light working
lights working.

Re:Speed step wont change!And more!!!

checked wires from chip to speaker they are ok.
Anything else i can check?

Re:Speed step wont change!And more!!!

According to the instructions for 26194 on champex-linden website, F8 turns the sound on or off. At the risk of asking the bloomin' obvious, have you tried F8?

Re:Speed step wont change!And more!!!

... and another potentially obvious question, is the cab switch in position 3 (far right)? Again the instructions say this turns the sound on or off (probably overrides what F8 does).

I'm just going by the instruction leaflet!
