smoke unit on battery?

Has anyone run LGB smoke units off battery powered locos? Do they pull much current?

The higher voltage smoke units generally pull less current

and yes - they do pull a fair bit. Maybe about 0.1amp, probably a little less.

My experience with LGB 5 volt smoke units is they draw around 300 - 500 ma. A 5 volt regulator requires a heat sink to keep cool.

I have been running locos equipped with various types of smoke units. Five volt LGB, Heng Long tank units and USA Trains fan driven units. my battery of choice is the Lithium-Ion type. For my trains I use 14.8 volt batteries. For my trolleys and rail buses I use 12 volt. I have not had any issues with appriciable shortened running time when operating locos with any of the smoke units. Here are some videos of my trains with smoke units installed.
