I built one - the post from 1.5mm styrene to make a hollow tube.

Mole in Ipswich used the stuff you put into gutters to stop them getting clogged with leaves for ladders....

Yes I used this Gutter Guard for the ladder, with reinforced stiles as mentioned by tramcar Trav. (it comes in 2 sizes - this is the 10mm mesh.)

I decided to try to make it operate to indicate the setting of the turnout, so just used a bit of fishing line to pull it to stop. (I know, not fail safe). I also mounted it on the wrong side of the track to avoid the fishing line crossing under a track. This shows the operating line

Now we'll just wait and see how it's affected by possums, birds and operators!

I believe it would be a Howe truss. Diagonals in compression, verticals in tension.
But I'd call it a tomato truss as it's made from tomato stakes.
