Rusty Wagons

I really liked the LGB Feldbahn mineral wagons, they were just too shiny for me:

The rust is a mix of Games Workshop 'Scorched Brown' acrylic paint and talc, dabbed on with a brush. Then a thin wash of 'Blazing Orange' is washed over the top.

White weathering powder is then dusted all over to give the, errr... dusty appearance.

I'm intending to have a go at weathering my LGB tippers. This has given me plenty of food for thought. I had thought of using that artificial rust stuff - but this looks just as good, if not better! I assume you wiped off the 'rust' in places to get the original paintwork to show through.

I like these feldbahn tipplers too. Much more elegant and realistic than the LGB V ore wagons.

Very realistic - makes you want to reach for a wire brush (or even a needle gun!) - they look so lifelike.

Rusty tipplers

I used the "paint on rust" - I've tried 2 types, rust powder and "Scenic Rust"

I must admit - it does look good . Never thought a Hartland tipper would look as good as that with a dose of rust. I notice you've also done a bit of bashing on the edges. Was that judicious us of a soldering iron?

Thats right Rik - I use a gas soldering iron to warm the plastic, then use a screwdriver or old teaspooon to depress the plastic to shape. This is to make the edges of the tippler look "used and abused".

Thats an amazing rake of wagons Doug and that Hartland tipper looks great Ian. I must try some of these scenic rust kits on my wagons.

I use Busybodies realrust on my wagons, its a really good effect which gets better the longer its left outside.
