Ruritanian Railways - 2012

It really is amazing how suddenly you have developed real character to the area! looking forward to seeing it properly.

so what have they been talking about for ten years? I guess they must have their own garden railways!

Such a large and busy border station is going to be very challenging for the Ruritanian authorities to keep a close eye on...... vigilance is the key to prevent the illegal ingress and egress of pastry crusted retaining vessels containing porcine related edible fillings.

The balloon loop at the end of the station; is that R1 Peter?

Great transformation - the staff phone box at one end and the no trespassing sign at the other are the little touches that lift it :)

Brilliant - Herr Bartlett he is for ever more! If that's Gordon Jackson with him, his disguise is far better this time round..... "Good luck Tammy" :laugh:

Yup, R1 it is. Not ideal, but a solution acceptable to SWMBO and all the stock goes round it OK.
 
After many days of damp, today was sunny, so it was "Whizzycranks Wednesday" as Ruritania's 2095's took pride of place.

Most unusually, one of the pair was in charge of the hoppers. It's seen here just re-entering Ruritania at Polapiko.

At Zenda, the afternoon railbus stood at platform 2 awaiting custom, while the WOPA (Wednesdays Only with passenger accommodation) train loaded mail bags from the new postal facility.

Later on, the WOPA was caught on camera starting to descend Pootank Pass. Hold onto those mail bags chaps!

The brave men of the Ruritanian Balloon Corps floated over Zenda to take this charming final photo of two 2095s in perfect harmony. Happiness is whizzycranked!

It just gets better and better! The new platform always looks as if it has recently rained, but that adds to the reality look of it.
 
That whizzycranks loco looks fab on the postal train.
I notice that Herr Bartlett still remains unchallenged!
 
Great consternation at Zenda this afternoon as a most odd foreign locomotive appeared on the hoppers. Apparently it is from the Hub Network in England and has been in Zenda shops for examination and repairs. A Ruritanian Railways spokesman commented: "this form of traction is unlikely to see further use in Ruritania due to the need for an extremely long electricity cable from Zenda power station".

Oh look the Ruritanian catenary matches the Ruritanian ballast, now that is a cunning plan :thumbup:

On/off switch dodgy so tweaked that. The loco also needed resetting to factory defaults and then minimum speed retuning. While testing I found another problem with one bogie's ride height which was preventing the loco negotiate even R3 reverse curves, so Zenda workshops expect to do a bit of pivot fettling this week. If I have the loco apart, I think I'll replace the sswitch completely to avoid future problems
 
Wednesday, June 20th saw the formal opening of the new postal depot, now complete with exterior loading platforms. The usual Wednesday WOPA train conveyed additional passenger accommodation on the front for honoured guests including the Ruritanian Postmaster General, Herr Briefmark.

In typical Ruritanian weather, the special train was caught on camera at speed near the foot of Pootank Pass. One Mallet is perfectly adequate for the downhill journey, but two are preferred for the uphill climb!

At the border station of Polapiko, Mallet number 1 was waiting to return the extra coaches to our nation's capital.

An elegant shunting move was made by the special train's engine, Mallet number 2 before it continued on its way with the postal special. Next scheduled stop, Bratislava (Pressburg). The newly installed pedestrian crossing leading to Polapiko's platform is prominent in the foreground.

The various dignatories returned to Zenda later in the afternoon and were again caught on camera near Pootank:

Lest anyone be worried, the hoppers were running as normal. Mallet 99201 was in charge of the invisible ballast on this occasion.
