It's nice under the trampoline. You can see trains from there....

Big trouble at the border today. Ruritanian Customs impounded the entire morning up goods working and blocked the border station loop for several hours:

It became clear that a tip-off had been received about imports of counterfeit "pork" scratchings made from goatskin. Once this was clear (and the loco crew's extra supply of peach schnaps had been shoved under the coal), Ruritanian Railways staff actively assisted in the search. Customs officials can be seen advancing purposefully.

Happily, the rogue scratchings were found and have now been burned. Well done, the men of Ruritanian customs!

Looks rather like they are holding hands to me - Ruritantania obviously has become a liberal state..... :bleh:

Looks interesting. Can't wait to see what happens.

I would have thought smuggling stuff hidden in the invisible ballast would also have been rife.

Ruritanian Railways is delighted to report the formal introduction into traffic of Zenda depot's new "pet" locomotive. This diminutive loco has been painted and lettered for the old pre-WW1 Austro-Hungarian Imperial Railways of which Ruritania once formed part. The livery was suggested by the enginemen of Zenda as an enduring tribute to dear old Otto (von Habsburg) who died earlier this month. Ruritanian Railways management was delighted to adopt the suggestion which has already received gracious approval from HSH Prince Rudolf.

Well done. The rivets are all correct.:bigsmile:
The Stainzmeister approves! Ruritania is humbled by this honour. Only 3 Stainzes in the country so far, but who knows....

Ruritania today played host to Ian, MD of Coggesrailway and various of his loco stable, prior to the formal handover of a loco conversion executed in Zenda workshops. Both Ruritania's trainspotters were ecstatic at the variety of exotic fauna to be seen!

One of Ruritania's own 2095's on the left, MTS fitted. On the right, the conversion job for Coggesrailway involving replacement of the factory electronics with a Cliff Barker battery system.
Yes, you can doublehead the locos with some realistic attention to each loco's speed. Great fun!

Ian's delightful shunter, based on half a Bachmann GE 44 tonner. A real treat of a loco this. Beautifully simple in concept. Just on/off and forward/reverse controls for a constant speed loco which a second train can then try to get round on a single-track line. Harder than it sounds, as we found out! An excellent example of how to generate an interesting operating exercise with the absolute minimum of expense. Power is provided by a standard 7.2 volt r/c car battery.

Don't underestimate the mini-loco's power either. It had no problem hauling this lot up the 1 in 20 of Pootank pass for 30 minutes!

Ian has recently acquired two immensely powerful LGB White Pass Alcos, both converted by a previous owner to run on battery power. The controls are definitely not as discreet as the Cliff Barker variety....

In case you were worried, yes, we did run a Mallet. Green, at Ian's request. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with pork pies too! Thanks Ian!
