Ruritanian Railways - 2011

Couldn't resist

The last rays of Ruritanian Summer Time brought forth idyllic scenes of Whizzy Cranks on duty at the border station:

Naturally, the hoppers put in an appearance, on this occasion hauled by Mallet No.1.

The hoppers will soon receive their annual works trip to have sundry bits of moss, spiders' webs and leaves removed after spending all summer outdoors as the "quick run" rake. Another year of Ruritanian railway relaxation draws to a close, at least for regular running outdoors. :brokeheart:

As the daylight is now significantly less, a quick trip around Zenda depot was all that could be managed today. One of the new postal service vans was on site, looking very well weathered (*)

The depot supervisor who accompanied us noticed that something had appeared on the destination panels. Judging by the text, one of the young royal visitors from the UK has had too much time on his hands. Fortunately, both they and Princess Katarina are being dispatched back to Swiss finishing school this evening.

Yes, Switzerland is outstanding and so [strike]tax efficient[/strike] beautiful. We do hear intrguing stories of some of your English public schools too: Dudloi Hoi and Bromyard comprehensive rank as high as some in Rome, so it is said.

The postal service today announced the conversion of a former passenger vehicle to postal duties. All seats have been stripped out, window blinds added and internal bars fitted for added security. The postal service's emblem is proudly carried on one of the blinds with the service's name in both official languages on alternate blinds. At present, the existing folding doors have been retained, but it is acknowledged that the roller shutter type would be better. It is understood that various manufacturers have been asked to quote for the conversion.

Oooohhh smart. Did you print the blinds yourself Peter?
I seem to remember seeing a British TPO coach with a post box built into it?
Yes, the blinds are computer printed. The posthorn logo was a Google search result.
This coach is intended to be a stowage facility (like a British Rail NKV). There's a postbox built into the four wheel van acquired by Posta Ruritania recently (post 233).

Nice weathering. By the way, there isn't, by chance, a prisoner at Zenda?
