Round Robin Postvan

Hi all It was suggested in the Round Robin Boxcar thread, that a new Van to start it's way around the world, was needed.
I offered to supply a suitable van, It is a White special edition Postvan, The Item is actually a Bitsa, the body was bought on ebay from a fellow forum member and is mated to a 1970's chassis I had in stock.

I hope this van can achieve the fame of Paul's, It proudly ran on the Little Stainz Railway as part of it's journey. We have many members that missed the original van, and perhaps in some van, this can fill the void.
The Van is currently sitting in the Local Hermes Parcel drop, with a load of 18v Bulbs on it's way to Philip. Lets see how far this one can go, I feel proud to carry on a idea and move it into a new chapter

Well done Sparky! It seems quite apt that this is a Post Van, given how much time it will be in the post.... ;)

Actually, I have an idea that's just come to mind - every time it changes hands, maybe someone could record roughly how much distance it will travel between each railway and the next (this should be easy to work out with Googly Maps), so you can keep track of how many real-world miles it travels on its journey.....?

Sounds like a good idea, the total figure may be a bit scary though.

With the new post today on the original Round Robin Boxcar thread, just thought I'd revive this one and ask if the Post Van ever got to go anywhere....?

Jon.

Like the idea, but the reaction I got from the last one makes me not want to be involved. Offered 3 Visits, one my old line, one the sadly lamented Rushchbahn and my new line when it was ready. All were totally ignored as it it was a Mafia Van.

Upset still.

EDIT I forgot I had also planned to get it to Giles Barnaby's late lamented CnS if I could.

With my other Half being very ill and me ducking out the forum for a while it never went anywhere, it's here, anyone who wants to start I Will post off to them.

No problem, Sparky, family must always come first (hope things are better now?) - I'm very happy to start things rolling if no-one else wants it first? Though I STILL (HOW many years...?) don't have a permanent line down I do lay temporary tracks, and I'd be happy to put some down to run the van and take some pics.....

I'll PM you my address later today unless anyone else wants to dive in first?

Jon.

So in light of the new revised forum which appears to be a much nicer place I would now like to have the Post Van Visit my line. Appears to me that I could collect from Duncan, run it on my line then deliver on to Stockers or Casey without too much dificulty. That way it will save Post Miles, get some distance in on real Trains and if it goes to Stockers in Kent get at least 3 lines in to my knowledge. PM me if it is available for the next stage.

I would quite like it to come to the Midlands.. Can hawk it round a few lines here (G scale, that is)..

Better not send it here - I'd be very tempted to put an 's' in front of that slogan :devil:

Put me down for a visit at some point. I'm in S. Somerset and can probably get it to/from other Devon, Somerset or Dorset lines, if interested MD's let me know.

Actually, I like the idea of it, and even though Paul (Minimans) was the original, it does give you the choice of either posting it on, or meeting up with other forum members who you normally only insult here on line, so it probably doesn't hurt to have two or three doing the rounds.

That might also help people not feeling left out.

I think part of the problem last time was that people, having had the van, and photographed it on their line, suddenly panicked about sending it on, and took the easy route of giving it to a mate, instead of trawling through the list of people who'd flagged up and interest.

But it's all good fun - keep it going :rock::rock::rock::rock::rock:

If it fancy's a visit to the edge of nowhere {Norfolk coast) I promise not to let it fall over the side. It could add a postal supplement to the Orient Express for a couple of trips. I might even be able to produce some special commemorative covers and make a few bob.

Where is the Post Van at the moment - did it ever set out on its travels? I didn't have it (in fact I don't recall if I ever sent Sparky my address after all - I think I was waiting to see what everyone else agreed, then it all went quiet again.....).

Sparky, are you around.......?

Jon.

Am i missing something? Did the old one cause some sort of controversy ?

Well, I think the old one worked well overall, but there were some minor problems - as has already been alluded to in this thread, originally there was supposed to be a list of who wanted it, but that seems to have gone out of the window relatively early in the process, and a number of folks who would have liked to have it pass through their hands missed out on it.... as Rhino mentioned, some folks didn't check who it should go to next and post it on, but just handed it on to the next member they met. There were also a few problems, I seem to recall, with it sitting in one place for a long time rather than being passed on promptly - usually through no-one's fault, sometimes it was down to illness or whatever. Minor problems notwithstanding, it was a wonderful idea and it worked well - finally finding its way back to its original owner after at least a couple of years travelling the globe. I think if the Post Van ever does start its travels, as I hope it will, then maybe it can be kept on track a bit more (pun intended) and we can have a proper schedule of when and where it moves so that everyone who wants to partake will get their chance this time round.
