Roofing Felt

Not specifically a track-laying issue, but as the track has to lay on it I thought this was the best place :)

On the roofing felt that we laid last Thursday (insect bite day - ouch) the bitumen used to secure the felt to the marine ply "baseboards" seems to have bled though in quite a few places - and ideas as to how long this will take to dry, I've had no expreince with roofing felt ?
 
Bitumen won't dry as such - but just re-set when it cools down. That's my experience anyway - it's always slightly softer in warm weather.
 
Thanks James, I thought that might be the case - perhaps when the track is ballasted (and the permanent way too) that might solve the problem ?
 
Are you worried about the bitumen contaminating rolling stock in a derailment, or operators clothing during operation? A good ballasting will certainly both protect the felt (just like on a flat roof) and protect the stock/operator from bitumen :)
