Riverdale Elke

I'm building a Riverdale Elke. It will be a conversion to a Duncan lookalike. Now I'm looking for a nameplate DUNCAN and a round numberplate with #6.
Does anyone know where I can buy such (name)plates?

If there are members who want to know what I'm building, please let me know. I will then post some pictures of the loco.

Also, I understand the Riverdale coal engine come with R/C Dampers?
What is the purpose of the dampers?

A damper is needed to balance and control the heat of the fire. The damper prevents the fire dying out or the safety valve blowing off all the time by opening or closing the damper.

The big engines on the real railway have dampers around the grate area of the fire box. These can be opened or closed (and various amounts in between ) to control the air into the fire - and therefore the heat from that fire.

The r/c damper is the firebox door, which is operated by a servo.

The drawback with opening the firebox door to cool fire is that it allows cold air to move over the hot air from the fire and this enterd the upper tubes in the boiler. This causes stresses by cooling part of the boiler whilst other parts are still very hot. Also, the fire is not being cooled, in fact its being given more air to burn.
Probably not very important in a fairly small model but in a full size engine it can cause leaking tubes and possibly tube or tubeplate failure eventually.

Yes and no. Yes, you can buy a RTR loco with riverdale. No, you can buy a chassis- and a bodykit with Roundhouse and a boiler with Riverdale. I did the last. The Riverdale Elke is the Roundhouse Billy and the Riverdale Amy is the Roundhouse Lady Anne, see Riverdales website: riverdale-loco.s-nl.net
I made some changes to the Billy chassis and body, as I want to make a Duncan look-alike. Furthermore you get a new footplate from Riverdale for the coalfired boiler. I hope to post some pictures of my project in due course.

Because of the coalfired boiler, you get a new cabfloor with a bay for the servos:

As my loco will be a Thomas and Friends Duncan look-alike, I had to make a new footplate, new bufferbeams and a new chimney:

At the moment the parts are in the paintshop. As soon as they are back I will post a picture of the painted loco.

I had little time to work on Duncan/Elke. We had an 8-week vacation in the US (travelling route66 fom Chicago to Santa Monica with side trips to Colorado (Durango & Silverton, Cumbres & Toltec, Cripple Creek, Georgetown Loop, several railway museums, Mesa Verde) and in California (Cable car in SF, Roaring Camp NG in Santa Cruz, Sugar Pine NG in Yosemite National Park, Traveltown in LA). After that almost every weekend we had to go to a show with our live steam layout and Thomas layout for the kids to play with,
both layouts at the Dutch National Railway Museum in Utrecht last year:

There are several events/shows left this and next month, where we have to go, a.o. the steamdays (21 & 22 sept) at the Dutch National Railway Museum, celebrating the 100th birthday of Maaike, a 60cm NG loco of the Leemspoor at Rijssen (27 & 28 sept), where I'm a steam driver,

so I still have little time.
However, now and then I found some time to work on Duncan/Elke.

Duncan is RTR! At the moment the batteries are charged, so that I can light up the loco when the weather is good next days. 
Duncan can easily be transferred from the Duncan lookalike of Thomas and Friends to a NG loco with central buffers, 
with or without tender and with different chimneys (homemade and the original Roundhouse Billy chimney)
