from David Williams in North Wales - three of the very useful SAR ballast wagons arrived this morning, one of which will be the subject of a built article to be sent to the usual mags and sites. The kits are mostly MDF of varying thicknesses, laser cut with stupefying accucracy and detail. Wheels and high brake standards from Brandbright, couplings from Accucraft [or your choice] and sundry other details from Cambrian Models[ rivets] and grab-irons [Phil's Narrow Gauge]. Decals, as ever, will be from Stan Cedarleaf in Arizona. Take a look at David's Facebook page for details - just look for Resurgam Rolling Stock.

Do you do anything special to the MDF to combat moisture absorption before the actual construction?

Yessir, before assembly I give every part a coat of MDF sealer. After assembly it will all get a couple coats of Dullcoat sealer, then the usual Rustoleum grey primer followed by red oxide primer - the colour they all seem to run with on the Welsh Highland Railway. Right now, everything is drying off - I'll begin assembly of the first car tomorrow.
