Before we start, this will be a short thread, hopefully concentrating on the problem?
So I would like to know what are the problems of reducing the overall diameter of LGB wheels to fit Marklin Gauge 1 track. Obviously if you don't do it then the wheels bounce over every sleeper. Also easy to do with plastic wheels, not so with metal loco wheels?

I haven't tried reducing the size of wheels. I've always replaced them with other wheels. Slaters make lots of different wheels with a finer flange. They are an easy swap out for coach and wagon wheels. I start with LGB plastic wheels, remove the wheels from the metal axle (use a piece of steel rod to drive the steel axle out from the middle of the plastic wheels). The Slaters wheels are a push fit on the LGB metal axle. About 5 minutes per axle to swap them over.

Reducing the flange on LGB loco wheels will be difficult, you will find it hard to maintain a round flange. You will also take the plating off them.
