I’m not sure if this should be in the DCC area or battery power! I’ve had a look for RailPro threads and can’t see anything since 2014.

Let me first say that I’m in the USA, so not limited by systems that are not available in the UK due to frequency issues on radio control.

I’ve gone battery power, and have one loco converted, using AirWire. I’m happy with this as it enabled me to keep my existing DCC decoder and sound system. It works well.

It’s been suggested that for future conversions, and I only need to do 3 or 4 locos in total, I might look at the RailPro system.

Does anyone have any experience of this, particularly with battery power? My locos all have current DCC decoders and sound systems and I like the Zimo decoders and sound, but I’m not wedded to them. My intention is to disconnect any track power wiring as I don’t want to go back down that solution. I’m not likely to run on anyone else’s Railways unless I’m using R/C. None of my locos were ‘DCC ready’, so they were all bespoke installations. I’m talking one Bachmann Davenport, two locos with LGB Stainz blocks, and possibly an ancient Bachmann Lyn (but that’s a long shot as it’s got a naff chassis!

Anyone have any insight?

I have to confess that is my inclination Greg. However, I’m always open to new ideas ;-)

Have a look at my Aristo Battery DC thread, works very well with DCC Decoders subject to a little more testing. Available in USA without extortion from Import of Post Office fees!

The Revolution TE DCC system is interesting, has some limitations, some features and some extra levels of complication not really needed.

The question is, budget... if you have unlimited cash, then you can explore all options.

But it's rare when people can abandon their investment and go in a different direction.

So is it realistic to abandon your existing airwire components and buy all new throttles and receivers?

Or does the cost savings of keeping your existing throttle, and just "adding" Airwire to your remaining locos have higher priority?

(I'm not addressing the possibility of having 2 different control systems)
