Has anyone any idea where i might find a second hand Railking Southern Pacific GS4 in the orange and red daylight colours with sound ?
Have looked at GRS and several other garden railway shops but can't find any not even new ones .
Missed out on one that was forsale on here a few months back in the red white & blue freedom colours

Re:RAILKING Gauge 1 SOUTHERN PACIFIC GS4 Daylight Loco

I had been looking for a 'Daylight' one for a year or three Richie, hopefully with some matching coaches.
I have never found even a poor one for sale at too high a price to grumble about!
Good luck with the search, but let me know if you find two of them please.

I was fortunate to get the damaged Freedom version when it was advertised here on the forum, and after some major repairs it is now in service. The original thoughts were to repaint it into the orange/red Daylight colours, but the current livery has grown on me so is staying now. One day I hope I will find another couple of coaches to extend the rake, but dont hold out much hope.

Another photo of her.
I looked at a YouTube clip of the Freedom Train in service and it has miles of freight cars in the livery too.
Did MTH produce any? ( and apologies for 'borrowing' your thread Richie )
I am sure Richie will settle for one of these if no Daylights surface.

Hi Syd
First I would like to say how lovely your garden railway looks :)
Fantastic pic's of your GS4 and coaches , I too wasn't a fan of the freedom colours but seeing her on your line has changed my mind .
I have always been a great fan of this loco even though I model the Rio Grande I have the Bachmann ho scale model with matching coaches , I have been selling all my USA ho stock and have said I will only sell the daylight if I get one in G scale .
Were these loco's ltd as I have only ever seen one for sale several years ago
Regards Richie

RailKing is 1/32 Aristo 1/29? might look a bit odd together?

Re:RAILKING Gauge 1 SOUTHERN PACIFIC GS4 Daylight Loco

Thanks for the compliments on the railway Richie, most appreciated.
The 'Freedom Train' is cetainly a limited edition and may not have ever been available in the UK. The Daylight was available in the good old days, and before I wanted one, but was a standard release. However it seems likely that very few were imported which is why they do not appear on the second hand market often...if at all !
However I remain optimistic, but if one appears on Ebay we must not bid against each other.....I have got one so you first.

Syd

( PM sent to Tony re those coaches )

Re:RAILKING Gauge 1 SOUTHERN PACIFIC GS4 Daylight Loco

Richie - PM sent to you,
and Syd, MTH only made the coaches and observation car in Daylight and Freedom Train liveries - no freight stock, combines or baggage car, so I made my own baggage car.

In real life the Daylight is a BIG loco - a friend of mine works on the 4449 in Oregon and says the bottom of the cab door is nine feet above the railhead!

Re:RAILKING Gauge 1 SOUTHERN PACIFIC GS4 Daylight Loco

Hi Tony
I'm not too sure that these coaches will go round my layout as a friend ran some rio grande ones which kept derailing on my S bends . I was nearly tempted when you had them on eBay to go with my F3 Daylight loco's.

The difference in scales has never bothered me !
My Big Boy was hauling a long string of Aristo over-size cars this afternoon and it all looks great to me.
Mind you I was not that popular with the 'OO' scale groups in the good old days.

I was afraid that no freight stock for the Freedom train existed, as you suggest 'royale' I will have to make my own.

I had contacted Tony about the coaches already Richie, and said you must have first refusal as you started the thread.
However I have a 'PA' diesel in the livery that really does need something to haul, so will happily take them off his hands should you not wish to have them.

Hi Syd[*] I shall not be buying the coaches from Tony so there yours for the taking .[*]Your Big Boy looks very nice with those Aristo Reefers :thumbup:

Re:RAILKING Gauge 1 SOUTHERN PACIFIC GS4 Daylight Loco

Big Boy looks good Syd - I usually run a couple of hoppers behind mine then the box cars so the scale difference isn't too noticeable, but as you say, what the heck, who cares - we run what we like.

Re:RAILKING Gauge 1 SOUTHERN PACIFIC GS4 Daylight Loco

Thanks Richie, The SP coaches will be coming here then.
The PA was retrieved from 'mothballs' this afternoon and tested to make sure all was well. I dont think it has run for a few years but performed very well. It will be great to have some suitable coaches, not many PAs ran on the Isle Of Man in my memory

Re:RAILKING Gauge 1 SOUTHERN PACIFIC GS4 Daylight Loco

I have a Pa Pb set in Rio Grande look nice on the straights but not so good on my tight curves .
I also have 2 F3's in SP daylight colours would like to get a B unit to go with them one day all my locos are freight only as the coaches that USA trains make are very nice but just to long for my line .
