After using the Uri Geller method I'm going to make my own track bender using the bearings that go on router bits.... I am not sure as I am bending to 300mm radius then imediatly bending the other direction with a 300mm rad.....I even tried annealing the brass track with no real advantage.... The pic shows where I am at, check rails still to be placed... bear in mind that the sleepers will not be seen as they will be under the road surface.....
This rail bender is available for AU$135 and has the advantage that the pinch roller is driven but will only bend rails the one way without turning the rail around.
I am going to build the Rolls Royce of rail benders with all the wheels driven, vernier measurement so that curves can be repeated which I think is important in the sort of work I want it for. Many decades ago I got to dismantle a "Bull" card punch/reader ( who remembers when computers were in thier "infancy" and the programmes were stored on punch cards?) and it was chokkers with little ball bearings and sub minature bicycle chain and sprockets - all of which will be put to use in my probably very Heath Robinson rail bender. Anyway this work will enable me to divert my energies away from the real purpose of the excercise.....
I doubt that your new rail bender will be Heath Robinson Kev. Look forward to seeing your finished product! As for me, I just knocked up something simple on the "Jim Crow" principle - I'm too eager to get it done!
