Pine Valley Estate Railway

We have some visiting stock from the Taita Gorge Railway in the form of some LGB tippers. These are sized quite nicely to fit in with my 7/8th stock although I've been told by the owner that I can't weather them while they're on loan. I might have to add a rake of these to the Estates wish list.

Tipper test train trundles through the station. The new 5 plank wagon is sitting on the loop.

Test train out on the main line. I'm going to have to add more ballast soon as we seem to be losing it by the Tonka truck load.

The Estate manager thought it was worth comparing the Estates chocolate box mine tub with the tipper. Tipper really needs some weathering.

With the increasing popularity of drones here's a drone view of the test train. The thyme has really started taking off and is starting to spread everywhere. Zac has been busy stacking rocks into piles at various points around the railway.

"Tipper really needs some weathering."

Do it. It's easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission.....:wasntme:

Not exactly scale but I've spent the evening converting a loader to rail operation. This is also our first foray into the world of battery power and the unit runs at a decent pace. Conversion consisted of removal of the road wheels, shortening the axles, modification of the under carriage to clear the rails on the turnouts and attaching some plastic G scale wheels from the junk box. Test runs were successful but it was getting too dark for a photo on the railway.

Naturally I've got the can of red oxide ready. Waiting on those skips being weathered. What's you excuse Gav?

Our new railcar has been undergoing some test runs in its red oxide primer. The motor for this is from a toy car that I got at the local $2 shop, power is two AA batteries, body is styrene and details are Ozark Miniatures. There's some debate about what colour to paint the railcar at the moment so it might wear the red oxide for a while and it still needs a roof made when I get some more styrene. Plants are loving summer and growing extremely well recently added was our first dwarf Alberta Spruce seen in the background.

The new railcar has been nicknamed the "Tram" by Zac and he's been busy operating passenger services on the Railway. With the now increasing demand for passenger services on the railway flat wagons and even a coal tub have been pressed into passenger service. This might be an excuse to negotiate with SWMBO around our need to increase the amount of passenger rolling stock we have.

Serious overcrowding there! Just present your case - what can't speak can't lie (unless your good with photoshop!)

Love the iconic view with Lamp in the Guards Van. Will look great out in the Garden at night. Only problem is you will now probably have to Light up all your Passenger rated Stock. Plus Tail Lamps at the end of Trains, Station Lights and Signal Lights if you have them.

Oops sorry just given you a Bucket load of Work unless you already have done it.

Nope that's going to be a bucket load of work. I have one signal to put up but it's 12 inches to the foot scale.

Station lights might be a bit vulnerable with Zac and Alec playing trains.

Passenger stock is on the drawing board at the moment but might be a while off.

Cheers,
Ben

Test runs are underway - first issue identified is that the roof needs to be painted grey to reduce the glare. This guards van is going to be great at testing clearances when visiting other railways.

We're starting to see the limitations of track power, 4 wheel mechanisms and smooth running. Might have to look at converting the diesel to battery operation.

"Might have to look at converting the diesel to battery operation. "

DO IT ! You won't regret it.

I certainly second that with 4 Wheel Mecs. Deltang might be just the thing. Though for a quick start look at Playmobil particularly the Railcars if you can get them at a good price in your neck of the woods.

Unboxing? Reboxing? built from a box our latest locomotive is a printed card kit scaled to 7/8th and knocked together this evening. Zac is excited and will probably take it to kindy tomorrow so this may be the only photo we'll get of it on the layout.

As for our other 7/8th loco we have radio gear, connectors etc. so just need batteries and we can carry out the conversion to battery operation.
