So today at work Gavin suggested that I start a thread to detail the construction and eventual operation of our small layout. So playing catch up with a collection of photos from this month.

March 9th we began with brick edging being laid to define the railway. The bricks are being recovered from elsewhere in the yard and we're laying turf where the bricks were.

Another March 9th shot with the edging progressing slowly.

March 10th and we posed the first work train and also the added the first foliage.

March 14th and Assistant General Manager, Zac, carried out an inspection of our steamer. The formation is progressing with fill being added to level the track. Final track level will be at about the top of the bricks.

March 25th the formation in the yard is almost at height and the lemon tree is gone. Fill is generally being added two buckets full at a time but we got a large load dropped off on the weekend. Still got bricks to lay along the back of the railway and if the weather is fine this will happen over Easter weekend.

Turnout at the north end of the yard.

Thanks for the comments.

Last night we were recovered most of the remaining bricks needed to complete the edging. Apparently the bricks were used originally came from a kiln and were then reused for a paved trailer park so they're third hand. We've also removed all the turf from the middle of the oval so once we have some top soil it'll be ready for planting. Rain slowed down progress today but we did collect some more hard fill for the formation and a trip was made to the local river to collect some rocks.

Not as much progress on the garden layout as I was hoping this weekend but I did complete the edging and I glued the brick wall together.

Edging complete just needing hard fill on the inside and sand to be brushed into the bricks.

The small brick wall is now glued together. I have to wait 72 hours for the glue to set before back filling and planting. We have some Hebes that we were given to plant in this raised area once the glue is set.

Not the railway but with the edging complete I used the left over bricks to edge up our fruit trees.

I will be interested to see how well the 'glue' lasts on your brickwork.. What did you use please?

The fruit trees look good with the brick edging. Should make lawn maintenance easier.
