Has anyone had any experience with Piko R-1 switch tracks?

The R5s - equivalent to LGB R3s - are very good
I've not tried the R1s

I have one. Quality is good, even better than LGB in my opinion. It doesn't have a manual switch box, just a little plastic thingy you clip on --> Cheap (you don't pay extra if you want to change to electrical operation) BUT effective.
Look here for the manual: http://www.gscalenews.com/PIKOparts...eep in mind the straight is 320mm, not 300mm.

Does anybody know if they (both) R1 and R5 take LGB electric motors?
Yes they do!

And according to Whatlep, you can use Piko motors on LGB points too....

They look like a good set up

Correct. If you look at the holes on Piko and LGB points, you'll see that the motors are interchangeable. The main difference is that the Piko one is somewhat wider. German magazine Gartenbahn ran a comparative article back in 2009 on G scale point motors and rated Piko's very highly.

Thanks everyone. the information was very helpful.
