PIKO (not LGB) railbus?

James,
I got a couple of the Piko Trailers from that very nice mr Round and Round some time back. I modified them to a centre buffer (used the existing ones) and I am happy with them. One Red one Blue. I do however think that they are somewhat long, perhaps you couldn consider a mod to make them bogie vehicles. I am sure that they would look much better that way with your OBB stock.

Re:LGB railbus?

uhhh...i have a goody for those who cant decide.
But be careful, it is a bit dangerous with becoming "hooked on":

http://www.bahnbilder.de/name/einze...and~Museumsbahnen~Hartsfeld-Museums-Bahn.html < Link To http://www.bahnbilder.de/...feld-Museums-Bahn.html

A southern German narrow-gauge Railbus with SG-buffers for a "roll-on-roll-off between gauges"-circulation. No clue how its called in English.

another narrow-gauge railbus was modelled for 1:22,5 45mm looking quite the same. Mr. Diesener, former owner of "thiel-gleis" had one and it was a great pleasure to give it a ride......

The piko-railbus is -as far as i know- in 1:27.
NOONE really knows, why piko did this just because of ONE thing:
With this "trick" the standard-gauge models fit the LGB-Thing as well. But they dont match neither gauge II nor gauge I.

The "loaded railbus"-video is nice. Beeing empty, we shouldnt think the (prototypical) railbus wont make it. It had 2 engines and often enough they got a 4-axle express-freightcar to the railbus-consist.
the most common consist -btw- for a railbus is tiple: motorcar, car and forward-control-car.
but we met it as motorcar and forward as well. beeing on more than 3, mostly they got 2 motorcars. Sometimes the DB used a complete "Double-triple", a sixpack so to speak.

An for more:
if u are interestet in converting models to prototypical interesting OTHER models:
there was a racktrack-conversion of the DB railbus called 797 with forwardcontrol cars 997.
From outside they were looking just the same as a normal 796 or 798. Maybe interesting for those how have a racktrack.
More infos on that on www.zhl.de under "fahrzeuge" "797 xxx".

greetings

Frank

Some very good pictures there Frank:thumbup:

Re:LGB railbus?

Wonderful photos Frank.
The model you posted is of the T33 railbus - I have a seperate thread on the forum about that one. Interesting to see the MAN and the larger railbus too though - interesting to hear the reason behind the standard gauge buffers.

True, as Frank posted, rollwagen/roll-block service of NG cars.

Complete video of how it is done, first using the block system:

And the rollwagen/frame system-

Re:LGB railbus?

Very very interesting videos Garrett - thanks for sharing them, not something I think I'd have come across otherwise :)

I've sourced myself a DB maroon railcar set from Andy (Alpineandy) - picking it up this weekend. No short term plans for a repaint as I like the livery - but I suspect removing/covering the 'DB' and removing 'Frankfurt' from the underframe will be undertaken in the future at some point - along with possible some EJK&LR decals - although it feels like I need to design a more modern logo for the line to go on the railbus - and then I have the question of whether I should mirror Austrian practice and paint it blue and cream... but if I go that far I think I should add a centre buffer, raise the height of the standard gauge buffers and add some finer end detailing in terms of brake pipework.

In the meantime - about 70% finished on the brake van conversion and all the bits ready for the two DR van repaints... so it will sit a the bottom of the modelling list for a while :)
