Won a scale models 1:20 1932 Chevrolet Phaeton on e-bay the other day. the chassis had more or less been completed as a rail motor, so I've been busy making up the rest as sub assemblies, (gives me something to do while the weather is not so good). The idea is to put a small loud speaker in the bonnet with an ESU loksound chip, convert and wire up the head lights/ tail lights with LED's. Here are a few pic's of the progress so far.

It does indeed say 1:20 on the box, to quote " In 1932, at the height of the depression, Chevrolet had three popular models: Coupe, Roadster and Phaeton.
Today in 1:20 scale, these metal models recreate those "classics". Under the lift off hood is a highly detailed engine with front wheel steering. This kit is made of die cast metal with high impact plastic accessories."

It is quite large and heavy, and will be interesting to see how well it runs when completed

not being an expert on these models i wonder if they were all made to 1,20 and advertised as different scales over the years, i searched usa ebay and some of the phaetons were deff 1,22 on the box with different styles

some other makers mis scaled there products aswell,,,

i wonder if anyone out there knows the story about hubley and gabriel

its looki ng fun at the momenrt, lookingforward to seeing it run

I saw it on ebay too. It has really nice motor assembly. Look forward to the finished product:thumbup:

I just checked on the web the full size dimensions for the 1932 Chevrolet Phaeton. Length over bumpers 167.2 inches width 68.6 inches converting that to 1:20 scale length would be 208.9999999 mm width 85.74999999 mm. The model measures length 210 mm width 86 mm. so I would say that's pretty much spot on for 1:20th Scale :thumbup:

thanks jerry,, i almost bought one but was put off by the scale shown on the box as 1 22,,, its good to know that its 1 20 as there is not many cars around in the scale,, even less pre 50s

i always thaught hubley kits were 1 20

Most of the Hubley models were 1:20 which is quite a common scale for model car kits in the US but not in Europe. They are various Ford types T and A and Chevys. They did make a few larger cars of other makers which were smaller scales but these are less common. I have a few of the 1:20 models both build and awaiting construction. There was a US company that made kits to convert these to G scale rail trucks and cars.

its a shame that 1 18 seems to be the most popular scale,,,

not many models about for 40s modelers

solido make a few models in 1 19 which is close enough and matchbox made a few nice 1 20 models too,,,

hasegawa make a ww2 jeep kit in 1 20 are pop up on ebay now and again

Well done Jerry :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Was bidding but backed off when i thought of all the other projects i have all ready.

Glad i did - as it would have been bad form to bid a fellow forumite up, just to put it in a cupboard for later.

I think you got a cracking bargain and look forward to seeing the build pictures as you get on.

My only though was that it deserved a better cow catcher especially as the rest of it really looks the part.

Thanks Rob, must admit I'm not sure about the Pilot/Cow Catcher, but I must admit its growing on me apart from the colour that is. I open to suggestions on what would look better
