Another impressive piece of work.... seriously good!
I misread the thread title and thought it was a Railton rail car..... there was only a few Railtons built, I got to drive one....

Hi, just a bit more progress. I'm now starting the wiring up and putting the LED's in. The main structure is now all bolted/ glued together.

Just a quickie has anyone soldered a lead to a massoth carbon brush housing? I'm finding they just wont take solder, and I'm trying to think of another way of connecting them up. Any ideas would be helpful.

Turns out I just needed a higher wattage Iron 40watts did the trick

Maybe they are nickel plated? You don't say if you are using resin cored solder or not.... I'd try a tiny drop of flux on the part, tin the end of the wire then solder the wire on....

I have soldered directly to the carbon brush housing on my Lil Critter helper tank car.
I found that you need to get the area to be soldered very clean,I used a carbon fibre brush, and pool some solder onto to the housing. Make sure you tin the cable first too and you shouldn't have any problems.

I reckon you will need a flux to do this Jerry? Might be worth seeing if Carrs do one. Ask at your local model shop.

You will need to 'tin' the carbon brush and the lead before joining them together....

Yep - use brass 145 degree solder with liquid flux :cool:

Just look underneath the back bogie of the 2-8-2 tender :laugh:
