Peckforton Light Railway

It`s a while since I posted any pictures, so here are a few from my most recent running session. I`ve tried to include a few new angles for variety.

Loco No. 4 (Bulkeley) [ former Southwold Railway No. 4] passing an Up ore train at Beeston Castle

The Down pickup goods passing the Mill Siding between Peckforton and Bulkeley


After shunting at the Mill Siding, the Down pickup goods passes the midday Up passenger at Bulkeley station


Wynford shunting at the Copper Mine


No. 4 arrives at Beeston Market with the midday Up passenger while Barclay No. 2 (Beeston) is steamed on the shed road for afternoon duties

I love that shot with the creek and the low vegetation around it. What do you have growing there?

Hi Peter
It's mostly Mind Your Own Business (or Baby's Tears). Provides really good ground cover - I bought one small pot of it about five years ago and it's now over most of the garden.

I think it goes under various names - not sure but I think it's also called Hens and Chicks (or something similar). I also have a patch of Corsican Mint which is low growing and spreads - but not as prolific as MYOB. It has the advantage of giving off a great scent when track cleaning over it.

Thanks for the encouraging comments chaps. I have tried a few other angles  but things like the house and sheds etc keep getting in the picture as well - eg




I think I`ll have to try some green-screening like Greg did a while back

Just fantastic pics of a most realistic railway.
I'm no photographer, but one option to try to reduce ugly background, is to underexpose (I think that's the term) so the trains are dark. Then lighten the whole pic and the ugly light background looses definition.

Thanks Greg, that's clever, I'll give it a try....
The other way, of course, is to demolish the house. I think someone else may have a view on that though

No - pretty basic compact camera - though I can point it at something and depress the shutter button half-way to hold those settings before then pointing it elsewhere - I've successfully used that to overexpose the background before now. Maybe I can fool it into reducing the depth of field by pointing at something dark and then holding the setting..... I'll try some experiments
