May be a sign of stripped gears, and the Lehmann toytrain bits are hard to find now (Modell-Land does not always have replacement drivers), procede with caution...
 
its always a calculated risk-the last stainz set with bonus wagons i purchased on ebay-"runs with a hitch one direction " i too presumed out of quarter only-but as steve mentioned-it was due to overloading and a worn out gear
looks like youll need a lamp lens too

speculative but probably right more often than not
you never know what has happened-if the gear box was opened or incompletely seated or tightened, etc
i had a 2076 spremberger that had all new stuff and it was the gear box itself that allowed slip

the bottom line is you dont know until you get the engine
 
And the gearboxes can be re-bushed with Igus bearings.

Hopefully reproduction parts will be made for the LGB engines like we have seen for other collectors market models. Why I can get all new mechanical bits for my 1930s Lionel locos!
 
When i first posted it had a buy it now of just over £50, but now it has bids it will be intresting to see what it makes.
