Then round the corner 3 slabs, as you can see they are sitting on mortar on the rubber mat, so protecting the liner

On the opposite side, got almost up to the tunnel, with the side wall ran out of arches so back to plain slabs

Done a bit of shaping to the right hand wing of the weir

Faced the weir front with slabs, sitting on a step built up from mortar previously,

& inclined so as to catch water on its way down instead of a clear drop

Done some shaping to left hand wing, secret with adding mortar to plastic liner is 'little & often',

Trap edge in place & let it set, then do some more, otherwise too much & it all slides down!

now that the quay side walls have been added, on the right there,
there is room for the first siding to run up past tree on waters edge instead of just up to it

Not making a great deal of progress at the moment, great lack of energy

Also due to lack of brain energy

I had overlooked the fact that this water feature needed a different overflow system

from the fish/frog/newts ponds in the front garden, which is more natural in its water levels,

so as to keep a constant water level for the boats

So had to employ angle grinder & install a dedicated pipe

PS those slabs are only temporary

Had an idea for the weir,

Getting the top of a waterfall absolutly dead level is difficult

so

I bought two bits of plastic from B&Qs range, meter lengths

one a "U" shape

one a solid bar that just fits snuggly inside the U

both about 3/4 ins deep

drilled holes every 6 ins along base of U, inserted 2" nails for anchors & set in mortar along top of weir,

Idea that the level can be adjustable ( hopefully )

If you dont try you dont know!!

Lined interior of tunnel only used slab for the back

for the sides I used roof slates as they are thinner,

to give as much width to the tunnel as possible

fitted sides first, wedged wood in place to keep them fixed whilst setting

then fixed back slab in place last

The overflow pipe can be seen to the left there, with a bit protruding to come level with the final surface,

mortar with stone work scribed in

Thought I would make the tunnel facade out of a thermolite block

read an article somewhere of being cut with a hand saw

but that needs energy so decided to try a jigsaw, the blade was getting blunt anyway

So did two cuts one from each side

Result

Needed just a minimal tidying up with a loose hacksaw blade

I was going to leave it just scribed but as I was doing the scribing,

I thought that as it will be immersed in water, it might deteriorate,

So will attempt to render it & rescribe

with a bit of luck, the previous scribing will show thro as it dries, as a guide to redoing it, then I will scribe the rest

Tunnel faced as well,

BUT

as I am not a plasterer,

I could NOT, no way,

get the mortar to stick up under the inside of the arch, so top section had front scraped off again

Will have to seal this bit and give it a coat of cream masonry paint as an

AID to Visibility for navigation in fog & the dimpsey


At least the bottom bits of the thermolite blocks are protected with mortar
