Building up the end of the planter.

I was running out of blocks, bricks etc

so took a tour round the garden & found 2 heavy, 3ft long concrete planters.

One was broken in two, so I utilised it in the construction, lengthening it to fit the wall & filing in the middle to suit.

The other was not broken until I dropped it off the sacktruck & nearly bust my fingertip,

I usually manage to push the sack truck with one hand while steering the wheelchair with the other, no problem.

live & learn, limit reached

So did similar with that one as well

In the foreground is the stretched concrete planter, with shuttering in place to fill in centre.

I will probably fill these planters with a gravel mix for Alpine plants,

and step the face of the planter back leaving a terraced effect here

this part of the planter will be 2 blocks deep

the existing planter on the right here is about 6ft tall,

so the bit over the new tunnel will match that, and to the right of that it will be about 5ft 3ins

Making it ideal for the Fucshias that grow about 2ft taller then droop down,

so you can look up at their flowers

4 years ago I had a collection of over 50 different varieties in hanging baskets

but it proved too much to water, so planters dont need so much watering,

And the cliffs formed gives a great backdrop for railway photography

Started on some of the detailing for cliff face,


Nail batten to wall & plaster some mortar up under it to form sloping ledge

Added shaping to wall between tunnels

Plastered this side of bottom lift of planter with Hypertufa

Just plain finish, no detailing as to faults/seams here, for speed of application

the broken planter used here will have a SLOPING gravel fill in it for alpines to simulate a scree slope (NOT a SKI slope

It threatened rain right in the middle of a mix

so up with the plastic sheet

4 spring clips, 5 mins later cover effected

& it only drizzeled

Made a start on the upper wall, as this will be visible in photos, more detail worked in slightly off vertical rock faults

New tunnel going to need some more shaping, looks like it may need some drainage

been out shopping, so also bought a few more alpines,

although some established plants will be relocated
