Could anyone point me to anywhere that has a pdf copy of the LGB/Aster Frank S (Live Steam) user manual, please?
I've been searching and can't find one, maybe my Google-Fu is weak today......

Hi Jon. Have you visited www.southernsteamtrains.com? There would appear to be some instructional articles there which might point you to a source.
Mike.

Mike.
Some very useful stuff there too, Mike - thanks for the link!
Should give me a fair bit of reading material......
With some trepidation, and after long and careful consideration, I may be dipping a toe into the murky puddle of the Dark Arts....... and I wanted to check some stuff out beforehand!
Owner/operator of a Frank S here, if you have any questions feel free to ask me. Just make sure you use only oil for live steam in the oiler for the cylinders. DO NOT use car motor oil. The original manual permited this, and this is death for the piston valves and cylinder piston rings. Distilled water only and butane or Isobutane for fuel. Tender water bath has to be filled with warm or room temp water to stablize gas pressure or Frankie cannot make enough steam to pull the skin off bread pudding. Post up some pics of your new engine. Anything Narrow Gauge had one for sale, didnt last long! Mike
My pleasure. The trick was to find the LGB model number first then it was easy. I find a google search like "lgb <model> pdf" usually works e.g.
lgb 2901 pdf
If there are multiple model numbers you can put them in a list in brackets:
lgb (2901, 2902) pdf
Same kind of search works with ebay as well.

Thanks Mike! I'm sorry I couldn't make you an offer on yours, but as I explained in your thread, shipping and taxes just made it a non-starter..... and the reason that the one Simon at ANG had on his site disappeared so fast is that that is the one I'm buying.....
It's been run (by previous owner(s) and steam-tested by Simon himself), and also it has the aftermarket gas-tank in the loco side tank, getting over all the problems of the original tender-mounted tank. It's still manual control, but I can get the feel of that over a while and then think about maybe having R/C fitted sometime later. I have a couple of good mates locally who have been into Live Steam for a while and will hopefully help with the learning curve, but all other advice is gratefully accepted too.

Thanks again Dave. That's quite odd, I had the model number and searched for things like "LGB 2901 Frank S", got lots of useful articles and pics but just didn't see the actual manual pdf. Anyway, have it now thanks to your help!
