Don't know how good the grass is at stopping weeds but the concrete underneath it does a great job.How good is artificial grass for suppressing weeds Chris?

I can't remember the name but it was from B&Q and cost £16 to £20 per sq metre. They have quite a range available. The expensive ones are to deep for our use but the cheaper ones are ok. I think it's a case of having a look and see what would suit your needs.I like the outdoor grass, quite realistic, please could you say what brand and variety that is in the picture?
Why not a a railway in a "proper" garden rather than just the all or nothing fake grass/decking options ?
Thanks Chris. I will have a look and exploit my old codger status.I can't remember the name but it was from B&Q and cost £16 to £20 per sq metre. They have quite a range available. And don't forget old codgers like many of us can get 10% off on Wednesdays
No, not cheap. And then you hold it down by raking sand into the top. Thanks for the info Alan..
So, not a 'DIY', cheap, or quick option.. If it is to last and be done properly then.
You youngsters needn't worry about your knees yet. You will be ok until you are in your 60's at least.
Artificial grass can look niceView attachment 209856
This is an indoor layout but I think the grass looks nice. When the track is painted and ballasted it will look like this:

I have also used artificial grass outdoors for some years now.

Did my Cycling Proficiency Test in the Multi Storey Car Park to the North of Leeds City Centre....Like the one with the roads - reminds me of the Cycling Profficiency Centre that once had a site in Bradford!
If the Garden is small, you could consider recycled plastic deck from say Filcris. Lasts forever, only trouble us that joists for putting on not available so most fitters use wood. But for me I would use square guttering downpipe, bolt cut plastic deck doubled for joists fill guttering with post crete then put deck boards in place. Everlasting deck. Bit more expensive, but no maintenance or sealing required so less extra cost than you might originally think.Paul, Lisa, DON'T use cheap decking boards, its just not worth it.
How about a compromise? Artificial decking![]()
