Hello! I am an almost lifelong model railroader (got my first HO model railroad at 8 of 9 years) and had worked/played in almost any Scale (except TT). Years ago I had a Large Scale garden railroad (LGB) and now I started a small industrial US Large Scale switching layout in the sleeping room of my flat. I am a freelancer in culturel school projects and also partly retired. I am here to find interesting information about our hobby and discuss topics that I am interested in with other members.

Welcome along, you have certainly come to the right place for discussions. The knowledge and experience of the members of the forum is astonishing so you should get all the answers you need.
Don't worry if somebody says we have a weird sense of humour, it isn't true and we are all sensible grown-ups.
Where are you in Germany? We have several members there and I live on the border.

I am from Neuss (on the opposit side of the Rhein from Düsseldorf). I think I don't habe any issues with humour so no problem here. Speaking of problems I am converting my engine and rolling stock to kadee couplers and used the kadee conversion list to find the right coupler for a USA Trains Alco S4 but the recommended #908 does not work. Correct is the 909 as on the rolling stock so if anyone needs a #908 I have one to donate.

Welcome to the forum Sir....

Welcome. Germany's contribution to the G Scale model world is fantastic (and probably foundational). Most of my collection was either manufactured or designed in Germany. I often wish I could speak the language to be able to read all of the content and websites you guys have dedicated to the subject. Do you have a particular era or manufacturer as favorite?

not yet, maybe. but you will get them.
i am here in this forum for about 15 years, but the different types of humour, one encounters here, still keep me brooding.
the easiest to understand i find the north american humor. they too rely much on "Schadenfreude".
sometimes hard to comprehend, but fine and pointed is the british humour.
what i nearly never get, is the humour from down-under. that seems somewhat upside-down to me.

but, you chose a fine crowd to join.
Willkommen!

Welcome. We have some large scale US themed switching layouts appear at UK shows. I started in this hobby 22 years ago with USAT and Aristocraft 1:29 items (and a little bit of LGB). I have now switched to US 15 mm scale D&RGW/Logging. That and 16 mm scale British and Colonial narrow gauge. I operate with battery/RC and live steam/RC. As a child my father bought me, my much loved, Triang TT "set" (It was the '60's and my father was Austrian :D). I play a little now with OO9 (similar to HOe) for indoors. Will you be able to go back outside again soon ? Look forward to seeing your posts. Max

Very early days at the West Well. First USAT stock arrivals, single line and gravel for ballast, all new and shiny (!) P.S. We like pictures here :) Can we see your switching layout ?

I think of the late 50s and early 60s as my era and since I have a Santa Fe engine (I do not favor any US RR company and this engine was the only one offered at the time) I want to build a freelanced part of the Kansas City West Bottoms. My rolling stock is from different manufacturers as I don't have a lot of money and buy mostly used equipment. In my earlier garden railroad I had only German LGB engines and rolling stock.

I cannot go back outside again since I had to sell my house and now live in a small two room flat. There is not much to see of my layout now as I just laid the rail without preparing the ground just to look if switching on my planned trackplan is working out. The first thing I encountered was the incompatibility of the different kinds of US-couplers of the different manufacturers. I'm no in the process of switching to all kadee couplers. I can only show my current trackplan (see attachment).
My old garden railway used battery power and RC control, too, as DCC was not available then and because I hate to clean track! My new railroad will operate with a DCC-Set from my earlier model railroads and of course sound.

That looks very interesting to operate and get into a bit of trouble/confusion with shunting a few wagons to specific sidings.

Welcome from East Anglia! Like maxi-model, I run track power, battery r/c and steam in most of the scales available today. If I like it, then I run it!

We lived in Rheindahlen for four years, and then Berlin for three - so Germany is a much-loved second home for us.

if you think DB is bad I will raise you Scotrail.... ;)
Then there is Thameslink whose though of a good service is to cancel trains or miss out calling at certain stations to make up time (known as skip stopping).
