A nce idea. Looks great and runs very smoothly.

An automated branch line can really add something to the layout. Extra movement going on, without human intervention.

I have short autoamted branch that currently goes from a single bay platform, up to a two road terminus.

Here is a video my chum took in the recent snow.

Since the video was taken the set up has been modified so that the train swaps over with another waiting in the second road at the terminus. This adds even more fun.

I am about to have some drainage installed on my lawn, which will mean clearing away part of the main line circuit whilst the work goes ahead. But when the track goes back I am intending to add another automated point at the lower end of the branch to allow the train to serve to seperate stations.

This will then allow three trains to shuttle up and down between to alternate lower stations and the two alternate top platforms.

Best wishes,
James

Hi Roly welcome to the shuttle fraternity! That looks just spiffing. Nice little train too

It is conventional control DC. There are Block signals on the mainline, that use LGB reeds and EPL drives. On the branch I had been using an old shuttle unit I bought secondhand, which was mounted in a LGB Buffer stop, although I kept it in weather proof plastic tub for good measure.

This had adjustable dwell times etc, but the controls were a little erratic, and you never quite knew how it was set, until you tried it. So I asked an electrical guru chum of mine to make some new ones. He came up one with a display that showed you haow it was set and with three options on dwell time rangess, which can all be adjusted. He then added in the option to switch points too.

He calls this 'volts free switching', the technicalites are lost on me, but it means that if you switch that function on, the train swaps over at the end of the run. Stage 2 will be to do the same at the other end, after all the civil engineering is done!
