Need someone with a lathe

Hi all

I'm thinking of converting a piko railbus to gauge 3. I've looked at motor gearbox options and I'd like to use the cheap ip engineering one. However, I'd also like to use GRS gauge 3 wagon wheels. Here's my issue. The IP gearbox drives a 3mm axle but the wheels take a 4mm axle. Now I could drill these to 5 or 6 mm but need some adapters ( are they called bushes?) to be able to fit the smaller axle- only need two. Is anyone able to make some or have any ideas what I could use? I have a bench drill, and planned on using locktite to fix it all together.

Are you sure that the IP gearbox will be up to this Simon? There's a reason that they're cheap and their reputation does not really suggest that they'd be the obvious choice for anything much bigger than one of IP's small locos, especially with the added strain of wider axles for gauge 3 when it comes to negotiating curves etc.

Fair point. I know the current heavy duty one is much better than ones in the past, and the railbus won't be pulling anything but you could be right. The GRS one is £70 more but could be worth it of course.

I don't know what voltage you use, but the MFA range of combined motor and gearbox are offered in various ratios. I just use a pair of bevel gears (4mm bore) to transfer the drive. Motors (depending on which you select) will take operate up to 15 volts.

Actually noticed that this motors does 24v - my memory is getting worse:rolf::rolf:

If you want to go for your original plan, send me the bits and I will make you two bushes to fit. Alternatively, send the dimensions, but on your own head if they don't fit properly.
