National Garden Railway Show Peterborough 2022 - who's going??

Had an enjoyable few hours at the show. Didn't buy that much, mostly parts. Had a chat with PhilP and Gizzy both accompanied by holders of the purse. On the way home dropped in at the Nene valley railway, where a nice Polish 080 was hauling BR Mark ones. Very quiet at the show this afternoon, definitely much quieter than pre Flu, seemed to be an awful lot of stalls missing too. Still an enjoyable afternoon spent looking at stuff that I would want, but can't possibly justify, unfortunately! Met up with a few folk I know and bought some odds and ends, so all good.20220625_124746.jpg

I had the same impression - seemed a bit sparse, so glad I wasn't the only one thinking that.

Still enjoyable though, meeting a couple of chums and chatting to a couple of trade stand folk when it quietened down later. Failed to spot the Pola station clock I was after so ended up with a little Piko track cleaning loco - a rather odd substitution. Crafty thing was that it just fitted inside my backpack so I was able to smuggle it indoors when I got home, without arousing suspicion.
 
I went, I saw, I bought. See my post over on the Saturday thread. Met up with a good few people - put names to faces and vice-versa, and drooled over Andy Giffen's incredible South African locos.........collected a SAR hopper car from David Williams - Resurgam - and bought a really cheap Bachmann 'American' 4-4-0 with that lovely 'Russian iron' blue boiler.

However, exactly as happened at Llangollen, NEITHER of my cards worked with the card machines on the site. I was left in the very embarrassing position of having to hand back a loco I had just bought. NOT a happy bear, me.

The vendor, however, in a great fit of kind-heartedness, insisted I take the loco anyhow and send him a cheque. So before I took it out of the car, I rushed into the house, wrote out a cheque and drove back to our local PO. After putting it in the box, I went into the store where they have an ATM, and used BOTH cards to 'check my balance'. Both worked perfectly....
 
Yep, good show, not quite as full of stands as pre-pandemic years, and not a massive attendance.

Star of the show probably has to be the cape gauge layout with Rhodesian garrets :clap::clap:

I successfully managed to observe two layouts and cause derailments just by watching :oops::oops:

Quite liked the look of the Accucraft 1:!9 SAR 4-4-0 - very attractive looking loco.

Met up with Patrick (Northsider) on the IoM layout, watched the Railcars which looked very smart >:)>:)
 
Arrived mid day and met Max and Gizzy and then Mike the Duff outside before entering.
Back to the car park to hand over one of the items on my selling list and then went into the show,
It was very calm and had a great feeling of space compared to pre-Flu times. It was very pleasant but it was easy to see that there were a few missing traders and/or some of those present may have had smaller stands.
Anyhow, it was enjoyable and I had great chances to have long chats with traders.
I only bought a few tools, brushes and a couple of mags. ( maybe the lack of any large purchase might have had something to do with the fact that I have to let a huge amount of my current hoard go to new homes!). BUT
During a good chat with Graham on the Accucraft stand… the devil, that he is, showed me the flyer for a new live steamer, a 13-2 class light boiler shay that will probably appear in 2023. It will be fairly reasonably priced as well ….
Just as well that I am selling my live steam Accy C21 then.

Yep, didn't see you, but the queues for the food were mahoosive, so I drove back to the Starbucks on the Eye roundabout.

I successfully kept my wallet closed all day :angel:
 
I couldn't go, however my mate Dave was assisting with the IOM 15mm group, and had been given orders to do my bidding, I eagerly await his return :cool:

That could very well be one of the Products from Boot Lane Works, they had a stand R6 next to the Tower Block of LGB half way down the left of the Hall as you entered. They do have a few more loco olives than shown on their website, most appear to be 3D printed including track.

No I believe it was scratch built. It was on the clever b*gg*rs MOTY stand

Not all the components are 3D printed..
I bought one of their kits, and initially on opening it, had a mild-panic, as I thought the body/chassis components were missing.. However, there is a large bag of clear acrylic, laser cut components. Challenging!

I didn't make it clear, but I bought it yesterday..

There are only four-sides of A4 to the instructions.. It does say you can ask for help, but mainly a FacileBook link. :(

Hopefully, it will be fairly obvious?
But my 'blindness' (to being able to envisage the finished item) might be a problem.

The Gauge 1 layout was running steam locos with longish trains at sensible speeds, which was nice to see. The only thing that worried me was why would somebody put so much time and effort into building a tube train that was so obviously far removed from any prototype that has run on the Underground system? They may have their own version of rule 8, but the only reason that I referred to it as a tube train was because of the livery :think::think::think:

Looks very comprehensive for the price and the finish will be much better than if it were wood.
