Narrow Planet nameplates for Fowler Diesel bash

I recently received some plates from Steve at NarrowPlanet. the wait was shorter than previously experienced with other plate makers, the quality is second to none, the price from NarrowPlanet is exceptional.:bigsmile:

I'm awaiting two sets - one of which is the replacement for the ones I mistakenly ordered too large (see post #15 - http://www.gscalecentral.net/fb.ashx?m=148278 ). Looks like the latest batch is on its way. Let you know when they arrive.

I like the look of those oval number plates................

Looking like this company is customer friendly...
I also have ordered a set before we set off for sunnier climes ;)

Mine arrived yesterday.
Not sure if it isn't a fraction too big.
Any views?
A very efficient service and a h*** of a good price.

My plates from N.P. seemd rather large at first, (my choice).
Certainly bigger than other makes.
They're actually the same size as the plates supplied in the Swift Sixteen Owain body kit.
I've got used them now, and I'm OK with them.

I think you are right, mine now look OK.
Perhaps it was the font I chose, not the usual Gill Sans.

I want some name plates for my Ragleth when it arrives. (Millie)
Just not sure on the size.
what dimensions have others used?

Edit: Doh..looked on the site and they recommend 9mm.

That's the size I chose, and looked a little on the large side at first.
But easy to read, and now used to them.

Although the website recommends 9mm I think these are quite large so, unless you have a large loco I'd go for something smaller. The first set of plates I ordered for my Fowler (which is quite a small loco) were 8mm overall. When they arrived, these looked somewhat over-sized so I re-ordered them (see earlier posts). The second set are 6mm overall, which I think is more in keeping with the model. You'll see that others here feel that 9mm plates are a bit on the large side, so you might want to go for something a bit smaller.

Here are the 8mm originals

Here they are alongside each other for comparison

Steve sends you the artwork before etching, which does enable you to get some idea of the eventual sizing. It's worth checking these images carefully before confirming the order. He is happy to change the sizing if needs be at that stage.

Thinned out enamel paint, applied using a pippet or syringe to the etched out portion of the plate.

Wipe off any excess on the letters with a cotton bud dipped in thinners....

Paint the whole lot mate (including the letters) and when the paint is tacky, give them a rub on a piece of card mounted on a flat surface. It'll rub the paint off, but not score the brass. Same method is used on GRS road signs like this.

Just checked, and my plates are 8mm - the 1mm does make a difference.
8mm is the same size as the plates supplied with the "Owain" body kit.
I've used these on two small quarry diesels.

Sounds like I might need to revise the guidance on the website! I think that the first 16mm:ft plates I did were requested for 9mm height, and it went from there. I'm always happy to take advice from customers as I don't model in this scale myself (yet ;) ).
