I have been working on motorizing an LGB Toy-train crane. Other than substituting the batteries you see on the rear of the cab and the battery that powers the receiver, it's basically complete. The sound you may or may not hear in the film is not coming from the crane, but it's the sound of the wind blowing against a gate behind my garage.

IMG_0659.jpg A couple of photos of the innards. You may notice the lower cable pulley looks a bit weird. After deciding on a location for the cab swivel motor, I discovered that it was too close to the pulley and had to cut away the outer portion a bit while everything was in place. Sometimes my actions go faster than my thinking.....

The large pulley that drives the belt which in turn drives the hook cable is two plastic wheels glued face to face. The LGB traction tires, you see on the pulley, were an experiment and will not be needed.

The last picture shows the wiring diagram for reversing the polarity of a motor. This diagram was the one I used on motorizing a Matra crane, thus some of the notes. This is my belt and suspenders version using the simple transmitter/receiver I knew about until recently. The wiring is a bit cumbersome, but it works. Two sets of batteries are required for each motor. Recently, I discovered an R/C motor reversing module that simplifies the building of these type projects.

Nice work. I recently got one of those tiny geared motors from china - only a couple of quid.
If you use a DPDT switch you only need one set of batteries.

True, but then it wouldn't be hands off.....;)

Nice job, good to see another "itinerant tinkerer" at work.

With reference to RC motor reversing modules, used these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/F05..._8&btsid=863230f7-1d3e-4e90-b8f4-421c3191834e
on a number of previous projects, "Brucie Bonus" is that it is possible to connect the Receiver Battery Supply and Motor Supply together for use with motors at 4.8v, saves on using multiple battery supplies.

Just out of curiosity did you consider using Servo's?

I haven't had enough experience with using servos as yet. The few times I have, I dismantled the servo and ran the motor from a power source controlled by an R/C device. I really need to learn how servos work by remote control.

Thanks for all of your likes. I recently found an R/C motor reversing board. One of those cheapies from China. It will handle two separate motors. The only issue with it is that it would not have fit inside the cab of my crane.

I am, however, using it on another project, motorizing a Playmobil Man overhead crane. Some of you may recall that I had motorized one a few years ago. Well, in a moment of brain loss, I sold it. Fortunately it went to a happy home. So now that I found this new motor reverser, I have my Man crane again.
I'll post some photos soon.
