More soldering!

Well I started on the next brass brake van, this one is a N.E.R. Birdcage from about 1911. again from The Wagon and Carriage Works. These kits are brilliant! except for the lack of instructions but I think they were made for the experienced model builder not a hack like me!! any way I have discovered the secret of soldering these together it's....................Liquid flux. It makes it so much easier to flow the solder along the seams its a night and day difference as you can see from the pictures if you compare them to the previous thread.
Anyway here are the pictures. the first two show the sole bars the etches have dimples in the back side which you hit with a punch which then gives you the rivet detail on the face.

Then it's soldering on the steps. Note how much cleaner the soldering is with the liquid flux.

Then on to the birdcage, the roof came rolled already but im glad I checked because it was not the right profile so adjusted that before soldering on the glazing.

The drip rails have a channel etched in to locate and make it easier to get them aligned.

Next up is the main body and I'm afraid I got so engossed in it I forgot to pick up the camera! so here it is it's basically a box soldered together there is very little fettling to do on the brass just file off the fret marks and some small adjustment to get it all to line up correctly.

Hmm, they do look a nice kit, just the sort of thing I could get into, after project No 792.

I'm only up to project No 217 so far, so it might be a while.

Next up is to attache the steps and sole bars made earlier

And this is where we stand so far this took me about 5 hours to complete to this stage. It gives me something to do when I can't sleep!!
