Modeltown Buildings for the CFR.

The CFR is due for some major remodelling in the very near future. Part of the remodelling process will be to abandon all of the European buildings and replace them with buildings of British heritage. There will eventually be an English Country Station, a Scottish Highland Station and a North Wales Station. There will also be various other buildings to blend in with each station. I already have a number of Cain Howey buildings for the Welsh Station and I purchased a couple of Modeltown “Corris” cottages and a Coal Merchants office from the Elsecar show.

Coal Merchants office and yard with the next coats of paint applied. The next step in a couple of days will be to weather the paintwork.
I’ve also made a start on one of the Corris cottages.

I will leave the cottage for a couple of days before more painting and detailing.
The Modeltown buildings were very well packed, with very little flash and no warping of the parts.

I purchased recently some Modeltown products, but I had no time so far…
Could you please give me some advice regarding assembly / glueing / painting (type of colour, preparation)?

Andreas, before assembling a model, I make sure I have the right tools. A sharp modelling knife, files, clamps a small set square, small drills, a pin hammer panel pins and pin vice. I use Evo Stick “Serious Glue” , masking tape and finally a range of paints including Halfords rattle cans.
I dry assemble the model first, I make sure all parts are present and fit into place. I take time doing this as mistakes later can be costly.
I then wash the parts in warm soapy water, then I rinse the parts and set aside to dry.
I like to drill and pin model buildings before gluing. I ensure I have a side wall and a front at the correct angle, I then drill three holes down the corner joint using 1.2 drill, I then partially insert pins into the joint, I then repeat the process on the other front corner. I pull the walls apart and apply glue to the joint, I then reinsert the pins and hammer them home fully. I repeat this procedure on all four corners of the building. I then set the building aside to allow the glue to harden.
When assembling the roof I use the same pin and glue procedure.
For painting the building I first use an adhesion promoter, once dry I then use a grey undercoat, once again I allow the paint to dry before applying the first topcoat, I then allow the paint to dry before starting on the detail painting.

For a slight variation I chose to have two doors to the front of the cottage.

Yes, door height 110mm. 6’3” in 1:19 scale, 6’9” in 1.20.3 scale.

i like the way you have been able to make the two kits up slightly differently. - Where the parts used in the kits, of from something else?

Phil, I just fitted the two small walls back to front on the second building.
