Minimum voltage for Aristo on board receiver

Hi, I have a Newqida Harz 2-6-2 with duff radio equipment. I'm considering replacing the circuit board with a new 40 mhz FM or 2.4 ghz receiver and speed controller. However my other stock is controlled by an aristocraft train engineer. Can anyone tell me if an aristo on board receiver would work when powered from the 7.2 v battery or is this voltage too low.

For ART 5490 the input voltage range is 12-22V DC.

I recently made a cable to connect two 7.2 V batteries in series for Bigjack, with Tamiya plugs that we brought from my local model shop. Each plug and socket cost 99p.

He now has 14.4 V for a Stainz that he has converted to battery operation....

I would agree with Gizzy, I run on RC and use battery packs of 12v or 14.4v

I used a sealed lead acid 12volt 6Ah battery with an onboard Train engineer receiver and had very poor results. After relatively short periods of running the TE would appear to loose the lock and had no control over the speed of the loco. Investigation showed once the voltage of a fully charged battery fell to just above 12v control was lost.
I would go with the two 7.2 volt packs in series making 14.4 volts if I used an onboard Train engineer receiver again.

All my current RCS brand ESC's will work down to 7.2 volts and up to 24 volts.

Hi thanks for your responses. This engine was advertised cheap on ebay with the known fault declared. However I recken for not much more than £100, (including the cost of the engine) I can be up and running with an R/C loco. Despite folks views on what some would call a cheap Chinese knock off, for a garden railway its more than detailed enough for what I require and and a hefty bit cheaper than an LGB equivalent. There is ample room in the boiler to store two batteries either in parallel for length of running or series to achieve 14.4 volts.

Thanks again. I'll give it some thought and put out a few more quetsion about some other bits of kit I've found suitable for the project.
