Metal Wheelsets - manufacturer?

Good evening all

Most of my freight stock has been fitted with the larger (31mm?) Bachmann metal wheelsets, some bought new and others second-hand. These have axles of 3mm diameter, and about 70mm length . . . and fit my LGB wagons/coaches without any modifications.

I've now acquired a number of second-hand insulated metal wheelsets (wheels are probably 30mm diameter) with axles of 4mm diameter and 66mm length. Does anyone know of a manufacturer of wheelsets of these dimensions? I can open up the axle holes in some ToyTrain "turning carts" so that these wheelsets can be used . . . but, before I do so, I'm curious to know what they might be intended to fit.

They could be of USA manufacture, back in the 90’s when I visited the USA a few time I bought metal wheel sets for my LGB stock, I found them to be slightly smaller than the LGB accepted norm. Problem I found with them was that they did not quite like LGB track and when I started using LGB track and coup,ines problems arose with the different size. Not sure that there were issues with the axle size on the ones I had. They are now all out of service on my line mostly sold on.

I wondered USAT, but I think theirs were about 28.5mm diameter. However, there were a few independent manufacturers in the USA who made all sorts.

Also, over here, GRS made a lot of wheels for Gauge 3 with funny axle journal diameters

Well, I recently re-acquired the wheelsets off my Accucraft Hoppers, which were replaced 10 years ago and sold. The gent who bought them just sold them back to me. They are 4mm diameter axles, but 1.25" (31.75mm) wheels across the treads and have 65mm long axles. So I suggest yours are Accucraft US style.

While it is easy to open up the holes in the sideframes of a freight truck, the axles are shorter than most so there needs to be some way of making them stay in place. I just bought a bag of 4mmID nylon washers for that.
