Masterclass????

I have had a request to provide a masterclass in "making those little lights and things"...happy to do it if there is a real desire from the floor....

Like the class idea, but have a nasty suspicion that it will mean I need access to a lathe, which I don't?

I have access, and it will probably be 'something' relatively simple, so I could have a go and possibly produce a few extras??
I really need to move my late Father's lathe from Nottingham to here. - Did think of approaching the Notts. society of model & experimental engineers for some help to clear the workshop a bit. - Not sure what is just a bit of old machinery, and what is important. Problem is they look down their noses at we who 'play trains' rather than engineer works of art. :-(

Yes I have noticed this here as well.... the model engineering community think my tramway "frivolous"....
But the making of the master for moulding copies is not the subject, more the technique of reproducing detail bits.... The master you choose can be anything.... maybe the side of a wagon? maybe some bogie side frames? who knows what you want or need? Even milk churns perhaps but probably an item you have one of and would like more of that item....

Don't know if this is any help, but as an ex seagoing and I hope practical engineer, I'd be happy to look over any stuff and evaluate its worth

Well I think I have it covered, no doubt I have forgotten crucial bits but you should get the gist of it....

IMHO. I have always subscibed to the belief that all should be encouraged to submit their endevours, be they 7 or 70. So press on, and some one somewhere , will be the richer for your generousity.
 
Ooohh I like the re-moulding tip - thats not something I knew you could do.

Don't worry, it took me quite a while to suss that out....
 
Excellent blog Trev. I've learnt a huge amount after one reading. Not sure that I have the guts/skill/gumption to try the moulding, but after a few reads, who knows?
