Now strange that you should say that cos have seen the video of the train on the ferry I thought why not - perhaps not so adventurous but am building canal barge

which doesn't float. So I thought why not mount it on a trolley on some rails at bottom of canal. Do you think a power supply to the rails would work!!!!!!!!!!!!
Need to think of some way to move it. Any ideas, however outlandish, will be considered.
 
Some sort of winch system maybe
 
What are you making the canal of.
My thoughts are plastic tray, or gutter and a bogie and magnet under the canal mounted on a chain.:nerd::clown::bigsmile::thumbup::thumbdown:
 
Many many years ago (O best beloved), when my weekend job was helping to operate the "World's Finest Model Railway" at Colchester Zoo, we had a large tank of water in which a couple of boats slowly traversed on an endless pulley system. Mind you the tank was big enough for them to turn around and change direction.

Thanks - have put in a bid - but in the meantime I unearthed my copy of a later booklet. Attached is a picture of the railway as was
