Are you serious about no access to the track in the tunnel? I have no tunnel but everything I've read suggest access is a must... I suppose you could pop round the neigbours house with a saw in crisis!

Seriously though, couldn't the left hand panel in the tunnel mouth be made to lift out? That would give straight access to the tunnel allowing derailed trains or visitors to be pushed or pulled out. I know it's the way I would go. 8|

The log edging in post 3 is only screwed on, so in an emergency this can be removed, a broom handle with a hook on one end could be used to remove stock if the need ever arises.

But to honest I've never had a derailment in this area, so hopefully this emergency action will never be called for.

More progress over the last week. The South tunnel mouth starting to take shape. also clearance testing.

Getting cement to stick on vertical surfaces is a bit difficult, it tends to roll off, as I found out. The cliff faces proved a bit of a challenge for this reason. The way I overcome this was to build a vertical face out of wood. I the stapled chicken wire to the outside of this face, this gave the cement something to cling onto and worked quite well as it stayed in the position you put it in.

All dried out now, gave it some colour (although Im not sure if its right yet) however just a few general shots..

Looks great, but no access?

Murphy's Law dictates that a train in a tunnel will alway derail 1 inch beyond your longest reach.

I have to ask a basic design question:
What happens if a car derails inside and falls off the track and into the abyss next to the tracks? can you pull cars out thru the viaduct openings? I just can't help but foresee having to cut an opening if this happens.

Yes, agree with David. Mother Nature would really do a grand job of making the mountain look realistic (with a little bit of help).
