Interesting link Alan. But at those prices it would be cheeper and likely more reliable to buy a de-humidifier me thinks?
 
I'll w3ade into this subject, as I have, numerous times in the past...
Here in Canada, a rather young, and underdeveloped place, compared with Great Britain; we can easily, and inexpensively wander into the local Chemist shop, supermarket, or even some hardware stores, and pick up a LARGE jug of properly DISTILLED water, at a reasonable price...
So; how come it is such a big deal, to even find the stuff, in the seat of democracy, civilization, and brotherly love ?
I'm not into live steam locomotives, but I always provide a large jug of it if a live steamer drops by for a visit/run. In fact I have two large jugs of it on the shelf at this moment, waiting on a visitor. I think each jug holds 5 litres, (Or more) and the price tag shows $2.50; and that's in Canadian funds...

I just checked...Steam Distilled water, in a 4 litre jug, is listed for $1.97, at local Walmart stores...in Canadian funds...

For some reason (probably cost, and ease of production?) a lot of 'distilled' water over here (sold in small bottles, for use in a thing called an 'iron',whatever that is?) tends to be de-ionised water.. Which I am led to believe will eat your live-steamer from the inside out?? :confused:

i think women use it for there own live steam hobby in the kitchen,,,,
making clothes stiff,,,,,

Indeed it is. Some of the guys in 16mm were capturing the stuff from the rear overflow pipe where it is normally expected I think to evaporate on a hot bit of the fridge. Not sure if that would work with a modern one but there tou go.

I still wonder at the logic of some who try to save money providing the wrong sort of water on £1k plus live steam loco. I have always thought it to be bad economics long term.

Though Alan's suggestion at the begining of this thread could hardly be called cheep.
 
It would probably make sense for clubs to have one of those units??

Anyone visiting, and needing water, could make a small donation to cover costs..

My membership of the 16mm Bedfordshire Group was very fortunate in that respect. A member worked for a Company that had umpteen Air Conditioning Units, he saved the water and we always had an infinate supply of the perfect stuff. But we never drank it!
