getting on with some bodywork now. a lot of brass being cut... and soldered. didnt realise how much work involved in the cab. raised panel strips, curved splashers etc. luckily, had saved some etched number plates from a kit of bits a while back so soldered that onto the smokebox door. had to silver solder that. now she has a number, although i think it might have belonged to a jinty in real life. will probably grind of the rivets on door hinges. they are too big (1/16&quot and were not visible on the prototype. dying to start the tender, have all the bits ready, an etched body kit from the bring and buy, a set of wheels ready machined and an old pump i just need to recondition. should`nt take long then.... mart

Really impressive stuff, Martin - not only looks good she runs very well indeed. Must be very satisfying to see something built from scratch running literally under its own steam

thanx for kind comments guys, it is hugely satisfying making a working loco from bits of metal, shame it takes so long. i can see the attraction of kit building tho. mart..

started the steam dome today. bit more metal to be removed yet, otherwise might not get under them bridges... ;-)  also made some quick, dummy oilbox lubricators from aluminium. they look awful, will replace later when i get more time to indulge.  mart

thats the loco bodywork up together then apart from the cabside steps that i will make the same size as tender ones later. can make a start on the correct tender now. luckily i have an etch kit for one i bought at the agm bring and buy. also have some old wheels and a pump, so hoping for a "two week tender" if i get the time. the body kit etch went ok, so refurbish and fit the pump next... mart

Very impressive build - you're quite a craftsman and engineer. Used to see lots of 2P's come past my house when I was a kid. How about a Compound next to go with it!

thank you for kind comments chaps, i have a half finished duchess ready to do next, and oddly enuf i was offered a compound from a guy in the group recently. hes downsizing the fleet but it is gas fired radio control so not my type really. nice looking loco tho. this 2p is about as simple as i can make it as i find the less complicated they are the less there is to go wrong. got the wheels on the tender today. spirit tap and breather next i suppose. mart...

looks like the try cock valve was mild steel and not stainless after all.... my fault for storing it all together. when i know a rod is stainless, i usually dip the end in black paint to remind me next time what it is. lets turn up another one then... i thought it was machining nice and easy at the time....... mart
