LGB Limited edition - IIm scale Steam Rotary snow plough/plow

Not at all tempted to buy a rather ugly looking model that wouldn't even blow snow. In any case, on the rare occasions we get any snow round here it never settles on the ground - so a snow plough would be somewhat surplus to requirements. And then there's that price!
I must admit that I always buy my LGB locos from German retail shops, as we are exempt from their VAT. And even then, it is worth shopping around, as the prices there can vary quite a bit. And if you think you have markup problems, I bought one of those LGB/Marklin Mikados a couple of years ago. It cost me about AU$1750 - including postage from Germany to Australia. While it was en-route, I had occasion to visit the Australian distributor for LGB, some 200Km from where I live, on another matter. While I was there, they proudly showed me the self-same model that had just come into stock. The retail price - AU$3400! When I got home, I ordered a second one from Germany!
This is far from an isolated occurrence. I have often asked these retailers what this is all about. Their response is that LGB will sell their products to the US market at large discounts, but won't do the same here, because of the small market. I am not sure that this is the whole story, but it happens across the board here - not just with LGB. Thank heavens for the Internet!

Love the model, want one.
I have always loved rotary plows.

Lets face it, though, to simply push it about, sans snow, would get old, and stupid, pretty quickly, i think.

But, ........
Too much to risk , regarding spare parts, just in case i were to try to move snow, as a curious and experimenting lad is prone to do.

And.....goddammit, for that price it ought to have headlights! Perhaps a smoker?

It has lights, it has a smoke unit, it has 32 sounds, some operated from the handset, others from reed switches. it IS self-propelled - watch the video - just like the real thing and is a v. fine model - of that there is no doubt.

If you want one, I suggest that you get your name down today.

Didnt see lights in the video
Tac do you have a link, just searched and it didnt even come up on the lgb site

OK, here is the basic blurb - the italics are where I've corrected the awful 'translation' from German to English -

I wonder if pushing this round backwards would clear snow. Fingers need to be kept well away.
Perhaps the motor could be wired to go in reverce? Though again this would need fluffy lightweight snow I reckon. Flashy get your snow gear on!

Thanks TAC, gots all the extras.

No prototype , right?
Ie all would be pushed.

wow that is some site, superb!

thanks for the education.
ive never seen a self propelled rotary.

I am having difficulty understanding how the engineer would be able to see, judge, presume there is a rotary operator as well as fireman.

I assume the controls are forward, but firebox is in rear?

the cost of that rotary would just about allow me to DCC retrofit all of my LGB and go Lenz.......

The original is still in regular use on the RhB in Switzerland Steve. You can even buy (expensive) tickets to travel behind it and watch it in action.

Alan, I did that about 12 years ago...........

Apologies for the misty picture - its a pic of a pic taken, I think before I went digital. Yours truly standing in front of a Bernina Railcar taken at Alp Grum during the lunch break.

It was feezing cold especially as we decided to travel in the open wagon which you can just about see at the end of the train. For most of the time the snowplough was running just behind us but, unfortunately, there was not much fresh snow around:

They even opened up the sides of the plough so we could see all the gubbins inside the plough:

Having spent a whole day with the plough it would be nice to see one on the EG&SNNR........

If you're behind it, how can you see it working? They'd be too much snow flying around!
