There are still two allocations left at GRS - all the rest of the UK allocation out of the limited number have been sold, according to Matthew.

Just be rich, okay?

Well, for those who have GOT to have one of everything....

Does not 'float my boat', I am afraid..

UK price is around £4300. US price is around $4300.

Right now the £/$ is about 1.38/9.

I wonder just how that works out?

It's known as "simple maths", you just alter the currency sign in the front. When we first started to go to Malta, we noticed that the prices in M and S in Valetta were the same as those for M and S in the UK,, the only difference being that the latter had a £ sign and the Malta stuff a lire sign. But the exchange rate meant that the Maltese price should have been about 20% less! Needless to say, we bought stuff in the UK for our friends in Malta and took it out to them.

Lot of dosh but Wow. If I only had the money to spare, my wishes for Snow would also be higher as well. Is there a Snow Tooth Fairy?

Would you dare put that much model out into UK wet, soggy snow??:shake::shake:

Something you knock-up out of an old battery-drill, and a Bachmann reefer, then yes..

Yes I would because it is "Fur drinnen und draussen"!

Well I have to admit that I go plow-snowing with my live-steam Shay when the snow needs clearing off my raised track, and my £5 plow/plough that I call 'Maid of Bitz', but I opine that it's way more robust than this beautiful and no-doubt fragile scale model. It's best off where we see it in the movie - in a nice glass cabinet being admired by the Great Unwashed.

tac, one of the great Unwashed.

A superb model indeed, if I bought one it would have actual snow plough duties once or twice a year on the Linz Gstadt Bahn.

As for the price comparison of £ vs $ it's all about the middle men - presumably Hobbycraft are still the "Mr 10%" middle men in the UK.

If I bought one it would be direct from Germany (see below) where you can buy it for 3,465 euros or £3,200 or thereabouts - so massive mark up by GRS. Tut tut.

I don't know abour Euros as I don't spend any time in Europe, but I DO spend a lot of time in the US of A and Canada.

Today's US dollar XR is a tad over $1.40 to the pound, so if it was a straight one-for-one exchange it would be ~£3056.00. VAT on that would amount to £611.22.

That gives a total so far of £3667.37.

GRS have to get their stock from the man in the middle, who has to pay the initial ex-factory price and transportation costs, AND has to make a few bob to keep the weans fed. GRS also have a fine store to maintain, staff to pay, and a living to make, rather than exercise in model train philanthopoy, much as we'd like it to be different.

The US price is the store price, and if I bought it in most states I'd have to pay some kind of sales tax [Which varies from state to state], but that would not amount to very much at all. Oregon, where we live for part of the year, has no sales tax.

So buying one in Germany - where the darn thing was made anyhow - is STILL your best bet. Note that the German price includes THEIR version of VAT, called Mehrwertsteuer, @ 20%...

Can we expect to see one on your track?

Pshaw, Sir, Fie, and La. 'tis naught but money...

I'd have one like a shot if I had the faintest inkling that Mrs tac would let me survive long enough to enjoy it.
