LGB Cab Forward

Too much of a good thing is nearly enough.

Finishing today, so you will have to be quick to win it, although the postage and customs would make it a no-go even if it wasnt a real cobbler and way too expensive!

The resemblence to a real 'Cab Forward' gets less the more you look at it.
I think I will stick an Oil tank behind a backward facing Stainz and call it 'mini-cab forward' Must be worth over £200 then.

Re:LGB Cab Forward

I had had a look at this ..well as far as prototype is concerned it is pretty near to the one below, or even as a freelance jobbie , it has been fairly well done but as you said, Syd, with shipping and tax it would be a little expensive for something that might come apart in shipping!

It would also need a lot of detailing to make it really like the actual thing.

Re:LGB Cab Forward

Thanks for the photo of the real thing Mike, I didnt have one of those to look at so was thinking of something quite different.
With that in mind it is quite a good representation, so I can see why it is getting the bids, but customs certainly rules out any thoughts about bidding on it.
I have actually always wanted a Cab Forward but the cheapest I have ever found one was close to £2000, although GRS had a brass one for £3500 a year or two ago and the seller wasnt interested in dropping the price considerably for a quick sale!
I am not looking though before someone offers one......it will not be on the shopping list this year.

Re:LGB Cab Forward

Looks like the builder tried to copy a Baldwin AM-2 as it looks like a 4-6-6-2 .
These were designated as articulated Moguls after some mods.

Actually some of the detailling is good, notice the smoke splitter on the stack and the oil tender
looks quite nice............It needs quite a bit of extra added but not to bad imo.

Re:LGB Cab Forward

Does look like a nice model  Not to sure about that front coupler tho

Re:LGB Cab Forward

Great detective work Spike. It seems what looked originally like a quick fix to my eye is actaully the result of alot of hard work and effort, and a fair time ago as the article is dated 1987. It looks like the engine has fallen on hard times now and ended up on the disposal list.
After reading the article I would have put in a bid if it was in the UK, although it did sell for a hefty £468.
I hope it gets a good home with the TLC and extra detailing it now needs, I suppose we will never know.

Re:LGB Cab Forward

It was shear luck finding that article.
I was doing a bit of research on the difference between the MM-2 and AM-2 and that
link in Google turned up.
Suppose there is enough detail in the article if the more creative amongst us want to have a bash.
