You could consider using small metal plastic coated fishing line around 20-40lb or a bit stronger (check out in store if you can) breaking strain is very flexible.I’m looking for the cable used in this model. It’s a vinyl coated small diameter string.
Probably a bit less than half that, you join it with crimps from the same source.what is the diameter it uses ? if its 2.5mm then look to Blind cord ?, similar to this product from a UK retailer, If its less than 2.5mm then maybe some sort of garden string. Its usually the rubber band on the winder that grips the rope.
