Adverts are totally ruining the forum experience on mobile

Whilst totally understanding that adverts help to pay for the running of the website, I am finding that the amount of adverts is totally ruining the use of the site.
They are literally covering over each other and obscuring so much and it is really hard at times to actually read the string of posts in a thread.
How do I get a happy medium?
Other forum sites have a modicum of ads that do not make it a real hassle.

You can always contribute to the running of the forum to get rid of them.
 
Corporate Capitalism and BIG data, the pension companies who in turn own the corporations selling you stuff need to make a profit to keep the gscale purchases coming !! your worth nothing but the value of your data !

oh and I paid £19 last week to the owner and not a single advert again, or use brave browser and it will limited them, I use both to exact

I think the point being made is that the desire or need to monetise, to an overbearing level, may put off the new or the casual user as the site's usability and functionality may suffer. The risk is that you end up with a diminishing rate of page views and decline in revenues, that relate to the level of viewership. A vicious cicle.

No, I do not nor never have paid a subscription to this site, or other similar, and it's predecessor (Boo ! Hiss !). Nor have I ever, or ever will, use ad blockers. Rules of the game. There is a satisfaction to, hopefully, giving as much as taking from a group such as this. So, dues paid IMAO. It is a sad but inevitable fact that the world seems to be moving on from the web based "forum" with the rise of social media platforms (and their algorithms). They provide an alternate means of obtaining and disemitating information and advise to specific groups. Something commented on a lot in maistream media.

I last paid for a newspaper when I bought my first truly portable 10" android tablet, about 18 years ago, Windows laptops before. Thankfully my national daily of choice, displayed there, has never chosen to duck behind a pay wall, well not yet. But then what is the worth of a printed "daily" in the 24 hour news cycle now ? However, in the same time the two main sports I follow can only be viewed live by having a NOW (Sky) subscription, so I have one, £20 a month thank you. Likewise my favourite "sci-fi" franchises, but you can game those while still paying legitimately. But this all is really just an extension of the subscription format that we have used for decades for specialised publications (not those !) like the railway (printed/digital) and motorsport (digital) I have long paid for. P.S. Yes, I am a fully paid up BBC licence fee payer, nearly 50 years now. Would not have it any other way. I am such a sanctimonious git.
 
I am also a member of another garden railway forum which does not use adverts. It is funded by voluntary contributions from its membership. A request is made once in a while (roughly every three years) for donations. Members contribute based on what they can afford and how much use they feel they get out of it. Of course, some decide to contribute nothing and others are extremely generous. We also get donations from non members - presumably those who access the site as guests. Overall, it seems to work well.

Personally, I can tolerate the adverts on here. I'm not a frequent contributor and only read the occasional thread, so I don't find the adverts too intrusive. I do contribute to the other forum's funds, but then I use it a lot more often and so am happy to shell out something for it once in a while.

He says in jest.................(as social media suffers from a lack of Humour at times it has to be pointed out and my humour is a dry as Dubai's fake salty water supplies)

Maxi, you need to stop watching News, all "fear florn" and as addictive as the said "florn" too ! Ref your sport addiction, you need to get with the times and start shafting sky for ruining our beautiful game with "dirty cash"...I know a man down the pub that can get you a VPN and a Magic thin little box that will give you "prime" time viewing of all your dreams... (think Charlie and the choc box Golden Ticket) all for £60 a year. Not that i know anything about this but my 70 year old aunt and uncle in northern ireland do it.

PS, I only pay the BBc Tax for the Radio, the Tv offering is just a load of poop apart from Mr Smuggs Great Railway /Political/Social Journies ! oh and some old stuff from BBC4

I was only talking about the mobile site on a phone.
I have no beef with the desktop version’s adverts.
As I said, I understand the process of ads paying towards the upkeep k of the forum.
It is important to have a web based forum as social media platforms are usually hard to search and to organise as comprehensively as a web based offering.
It is interesting that I have ignored the adverts’ content or product name as I navigate through the threads, so the ads are certainly not achieving their main aim ( with me at least).
But hey ho the rose tinted yesteryears on the forum do seem to have gone the way of YouTube and Prime

DONT EGGAGGERAT ! , eggcellent eggsecution, eggcited to see the results............................. That is big, funny, i hardly ever use a phone to look at the Tinternet as its just so annoying. football scores, layz spar heating,texts and phone calls only.

The number of people that want to become a new member and not a guest per day disproves this although I do see your point.
 
I think what disturbs me is that some of the ads which pop up are online scams such as this one for a marvellous heater which is so incredible you will save hundreds of pounds in heating costs

Kind of feel your pain but I the net is now full of such garbage. We live in a world where if scammers manage to scam it is much easier than work. I just ignore the adds, even when they take up the side of the post view.

Ads are often based on your IP address and algorithms, conversations recorded via what's app , facebook etc. Its a bit like NEWS on the BBC, SKY, ITV etc, ifs full of CRAP and Miss information but I just switch it off, zone out and listen to Catch up and fastforward for a happier, healthier life.

Personally MY choice is to PAY the Subs, but before I did this i use and STILL use BRAVE browser, My data is MY MY MY DATA so i have no shame using this browser for all my internet use, especially for YOUTUBE , as i used that site everyday, all day at work and would not if i had to stomach the adverts...

I am with you on both of these, it is not as if the annual subs is expensive these days, a few pints at most.
 
I suppose the irony is that, because I clicked the link to explore the audacity of the scam, Google now thinks I'm interested in these sort of products and so will bombard me with even more.....
