Dear All,

I am the proud owner of three different LGB 2030 type locos, green and white, blue white and red and white. They get used a lot on my two branches, some even run from the catenary.

I am looking for a fourth one, but it needs to be in a different livery to the others and ideally with post 1980 type couplings....

If anyone has one hanging around, unwanted, unloved and would like to see it go to a home where it WILL be used........

Only stipulations are that it will need to be complete and in working order.

Hi James, you want to look for one of the later-production all-dark-green locos with the "Breitenau" name on the body.... they have an old-fashioned bow-type overhead collector rather than the moderm pantograph of the other little e-loks, so look a bit different as well.
I can't offer one I'm afraid, I did have one but sold it to a fellow forumite a few years back!

There is also, I belive, a solid-blue painted version that came (IIRC) in a set with some mineral wagons.

Actually have a look out, there were a batch of 2030's painted into special colours by FERTIG a Germany Dealer, the most common one is a red AEG paint scheme, but there's a yellow/beige version and a brown one about

I tend to agree with you - Those specials sound nice, especially with the bow collector!

In fact so much so that I have amended the title of this thread and have just bought a green bow collector equipped 22300

I would have liked to find more of the earlier ones, like my early 1970s green and cream one, but as someone who runs these on automated branches, I need the couplings to be the modern type and sadly you can no longer get the factory parts to convert old couplings to new like I did when I acquired that.

Not trying to rival you on the Stainz front, but these little locos really work hard on my layout. Harder than any other locos!

Looking forward to playing with it on my branches before too long.

Well, my brand new LGB 22300 arrived from Grootspoor . I have to say it is lovely.

My first shock was how light it is, as all mine have had strip lead weight added in the hoods.

It will also need a traction tyre added, as for some years now LGB have decided that electric locos don't need these, whilst I disagree, as I prefer mine to haul small trains rather than spin hopelessly.

Finally it will need a magnet!

First LGB loco in my fleet with the new style lighting sockets, in fact the first new LGB loco to join my fleet since around 1990 when I bought my first blue and white clamshell 2030!

Of the fourteen LGB locos I own, only four were bought new, the rest were either nearly new (lightly used) from dealers or older, from chums and in one case via e-bay.

Looking forward to test running it over the weekend before it goes into works for customising as above. I think it will look good with a pair of my newer 3010s

James....Brixham Works could always take on a commission to respray a tired example into a colour not known to LGB!

Allover black with a BR roundel or crest
BR green with BR roundel or crest
Poterbrook Purple ( I don't think so!! )

I do like Steve Lewis's orange and black coaches...very CIE!

Coaches were originally Green!!

That is a good idea, as it a really odd shade of green for LGB, with a hint of blue, almost British Racing Green.......contrasts with ancient and modern 3010s, 3050s and 3019s

I have already got a Kaleidoscope of browns in my ZB train, maybe I should head that way with greens?

I do like Steve's CIE coaches. I imagine that the stock of the Dart would have looked like this if it had been built in Edwardian Times, although of course it wouldn't have been called CIE back then, so maybe we had better go for the 1920s?

I had better explain that the green cream loco has had some hand rails replaced. The coupling upgraded to post 1980 type using factory parts. The pantograph is original but the head is home made (The original was stainless steel). Most recently I have added plugs so that I can connect up the coach lighting to this loco. (pick up vans confuse the shuttle modules)

All locos have extra weight, EPL Magnets, internal lighting and tyres, although only the green and cream one came with tyres from new.

All these features will be added to the 22300 along with side magnets to work my twin train automation. These still need the attention of a paint brush on the other locos.......
