LGB 2020 disassembly

Hi all,

I've posted this on another forum but have no responses yet. I know that GSC is home to a lot of Stainz-loving blokes, so I thought I'd ask here...

I have a question about disassembling an LGB 2020 Stainz. My understanding is that the motor block is held in by a bolt that passes through the loco from the bottom of the stack with a nut on the bottom of the train and a single screw at the back. I have removed both of these, but am still stuck--I'm very reluctant to pry things apart, as I'd hate to break this guy. Does all the running gear (side rods etc) and the shell have to come off to get the motor block out? I should also note that I'm afraid that if I take this complicated little critter down to bits and pieces I might not be able to get him back together :)

I've seen the LGB exploded diagram, but it wasn't much help. Any advice would be much appreciated.

comes apart exactly as you think, chimney out, screw out on back, Pull out front coupling, then remove the 2 little black angled pieces in front of the cab, flick the part of the motion out that the black angled pieces hold in, then push down on the wheels to seperate block from chassis.

The usall stumbling block is people forget to take out the front coupling

Thanks for the help. The coupler was the culprit. I've taken it apart and got it safely back together now.
